Hey @JohnHuber72 thanks for sharing your thoughts. I am spending quite a lot of time in this debate, since it's the one that makes or breaks the AI thematic. If not even the infrastructure pays for itself, nothing else will work.

So I dug my notes to write a comprehensive response to your thoughts, and maybe bring some important additional arguments to bring light to what I believe to be 30% cash on cash returns when stacking up IaaS revenues with PaaS revenues. Most of the debate is focused on the infrastructure payback, but there are monetizable managed services running on top of it.

Finally, in my experience, infrastructure shouldn't earn extraordinary returns like the CSPs do. They are terrific businesses, with plenty of leeway to reinvest at attractive returns for many years.

4X leverage is pretty high for sure but levering a 3X beta 4x is how you get serenity and situational awareness returns. It's just beta and leverage. No "expertise". Nothing you should follow and learn from. No Alpha you should pay for.

Fedorov’s reaction (i.e. saying no to any offer but the position of the defense minister) is more than understandable.

A deputy PM post for military technology that Zelensky’s offering him might sound sexy, but in reality it’s nothing more than a figurehead role with no authority and no budgets, whose sole function would be to sit tight, put on a show of vigorous reformist activity, and stay out of the way of the respectable people making money off the war’s state procurement.

Some other official would be thrilled to land such a cushy, no-hassle post.

But not someone who actually wants to change the situation and lead Ukraine to victory in the war.

So Zelensky will have to swallow his made-up pride here too and stop listening to his buddies. Because everyone wants Fedorov back, from the new top military command to civil society, and he’ll have to fully correct this incompetent mistake of his.

Strong leaders are not threatened by accomplished commanders. Weak ones are. His paranoid micromanagement of senior military leaders and promotion lists is pure insecurity dressed up as reform. He is more interested in purging people he perceives as insufficiently loyal than empowering proven patriots who can actually lead.

This is not reinvigorating the warrior ethos. This is not a leader prioritizing merit. It’s sophomoric. It’s unserious. And it’s bringing great harm to our Department of Defense. Our military deserves steady, serious civilian leadership. Right now, it’s getting the opposite.
