On the debt ceiling, it's worth noting that one-quarter of the federal debt, from the founding of the Republic to 2021, was accumulated during the first administration of Donald J. Trump.
Underappreciated angle to the appointments of Patel, Gaetz, Bondi, et al.
Massive Fuq U to institutions …
But also a huge FU to the Supreme Court, because Trump doesn’t think they will be a check on his campaign of lawless retribution.
Nice work, John Roberts.
@Kentroyals5@daveweigel Media gonna be shocked when D’s tune out and the clicks and eyeballs crater. This ain’t 2017. We are tired. Let the republicans own this and screw it all up while we watch.
The flip side is that Trump ran an awful campaign. He gave a terrible RNC speech, his VP was deeply unpopular, he lost the debate, he had no ground game to speak of, he offended key demographic groups ... and none of it mattered.
MEMPHIS — this 👇🏽is why @CSexton25 threatened to withhold tax revenue over these referendums being on the ballot. Because he knew they would pass.

Tonight’s nail biter election is why children and women don’t report being raped. “Good people” everywhere are willing to overlook rape if it’s done by a rich powerful white man. F*cking disgusting. Whether Trump wins or loses this is an indictment of the very soul of our Nation.
Dozens of accounts in the Russian network that have been posting fake videos impersonating the FBI and international media have now been suspended on X.
This follows repeated FBI warnings about fake videos.
The network is persistent though so we might see more of these spring up.
Stock markets at record highs, low unemployment, wage growth exceeds inflation, the best handling of inflation of any G7 nation, energy independence, and I can go on and on and on...But no matter how this result lands, whether VP Harris ekes this out or not, it is amazing how unappreciated successful governance was in this election and how Americans are so willing to bring back into office the guy who caused all the destruction.
My main thought:
We're probably going back, but we can't go anywhere.
Our era will be about protecting their attempts to dismantle the progress that was made in the last century or so. It's a more sober mission than pushing for progress but it is an important one. ☮️
He was the worst President in history. And when he got voted out, he tried to stage a coup. Then he stole national secrets and sold the ones he didn't store in the bathroom.
He was convicted of fraud, found liable of sexual assault and convicted of 34 felonies. He is half a billion dollars in debt, owned by God only knows who, and the biggest national security risk the nation has ever had.
But at least he's not a Black woman.
Whatever the final outcome, the fact that Trump—a convicted felon, adjudicated rapist, pathological liar, virulent bigot and utterly reckless manager who kowtows to Putin and despises democracy— is this close to regaining the White House is deeply disturbing.
A convicted felon who was held liable for sexual assault & found guilty of business fraud, who tried to overturn an election (inciting violence) & who mismanaged a pandemic so 10Ks suffered avoidable deaths is in a position to regain the White House. America is broken.
Looks like I overestimated the American people.
This election isn’t over, but this should have been the biggest electoral landslide in history.
It’s like people are actively voting for America to fail.
