my main is @sillyfirecracka, but use this account to yap about writing. my profession keeps me busy. pfp credit @zooragizoo. tag: angst with happy ending
@Ginevra_Nathy all my work gets like ten passes before getting posted and yet i read this one fic over and stared in horror at it… and just edited it to hell again… lets see what happens in a year from now ig
instead of working on a new chapter for a fic or even a new fic overall, i’m rewriting chapters for one fic because i ended up re-reading & HATING IT but instead of just scrapping it, i’ll write it in a way to love it so i can continue it since the i fleshed out the plot already
it’s impolite to tag ship C/D if they are not a main focus like A/B because people who scroll ship C/D are looking to read about C/D and not A/B. you can still “warn” about C/D in tags on works for A/B but you don’t have to use the relationship tag
Things fic readers need to know (esp for ao3):
1: Don't like? Don't read
2: your kink is not my kink
3: dead dove do not eat = heed the tag warnings
4: ao3 allows any fics because it is fiction. Stop vying for censorship, they won't do it. See 1
5: stop reporting fics you don't like. See 1 and 4
6: comments/kudos/bookmark fics you do like, the writer gets more motivated to write that way
7: there's a filtering system. Use it
8: your ship is not my ship = see 1
i must be misunderstanding something about how a03 tags work, that’s definitely it, since i’m trying to get better at tagginf my fics and just end up confused lol
one annoying thing i have to say about a03 tags is that there is not enough tags like wdym bpd or aroace etc is not a tag. why are all the options “___ is ___” like yeah i can just type out the word but it’s the mere fact that it’s not a tag that’s confusing
I wish more people left comments on fics they enjoyed. While it's true we write for ourselves, it would be dishonest to say we didn't care about engagement. I don't think people realize how much a simple emoji or "Loved this" means to a writer, especially a less popular writer.
the conversation around censorship and ao3 is exhausting. the reason they can’t just not allow specific things is because it’s impossible to monitor. if you apply restrictions on works about rape, pedophilia, incest etc it also removes the opportunity to have important +
Advocating for censorship is never progressive and always serves the oppressor rather than helping the oppressed you claim to be protecting by railing for it
@paraselenespear yeah i’m debating taking down one of the fics to rewrite it because i do not like it rn but idk if its because i’m being really critical of my fluff
but i more meant like before ever posting something like i swear i’ll have a chapter done but i edit it all over like seven times
no, fiction isn't necessarily shaped by someone's values or beliefs. it's why there's authors who preach love and are violent abusers irl. people's beliefs and biases are not born from fiction, yet y'all try to excuse yourselves and shift the blame onto it like religious zealots
🧵 I posted about this separately before, but I do think there's nuance to the discussion on criticism.
I do think people should want to improve in a hobby they claim to enjoy, but I don't think it should be mandatory, either.
