Wilson Dam is a megastructure! Stretching 4,541 feet across the Tennessee River in Florence, AL, it has 21 generating units producing 653 megawatts, and its main navigation lock is the highest single lift lock east of the Rocky Mountains. Construction of our unique hydro facility, Tims Ford, began in 1966 and generated its first electricity in March 1972. Nestled in central Tennessee, this dam generates a net of 40 megawatts while providing water supply and flood damage reduction on the Elk River.
