🇷🇴🇧🇬 RUSSIA'S GREY-ZONE WAR AGAINST EUROPE IS RAPIDLY EXPANDING.
EIGHT SHIPS. JUST 19 DAYS.
Since October 5, eight commercial vessels have been involved in serious incidents in the western Black Sea, just off the coasts of NATO members Romania and Bulgaria.
Several were struck by drones. Others caught fire or sank, with some circumstances and attribution still under investigation.
The human cost is staggering:
• 81 sailors reported rescued or safe
• 21 reported missing
• 12–13 reported dead or presumed dead, including 10 presumed fatalities
The latest incident happened TODAY. The cargo ship KHORYV capsized just 13 nautical miles off Constanța, leaving one sailor dead and three missing. Romania has blamed Russia for the attack.
These are civilian ships, carrying civilian crews, operating on the doorstep of NATO territory.
I've mapped all eight incidents from October 5–23, including their reported locations and the human cost.

Quick update regarding the attacks on commercial vessels sailing in Bulgaria’s EEZ and Romania’s TTW and EEZ respectively from 5 to 23 October: 8 vessels attacked, of which 2 sunk, 1 partially submerged, 1 capsized & sinking, and 4 still afloat.
Attack vectors used: a combination of USVs and OWA UAVs.
Most likely culprit: Russia, there are no buts and ifs about it. I would argue this escalation it’s no longer just a spillover and it’s intentional, while also testing just how far it can go with military provocation.
Incoming video at the scene of OBO carrier “KHORYV” incident: vessel is capsized and highly likely sinking, Multi Purpose Offshore Vessel “SARTOR” (IMO: 9087312) and Patrol 1850 class patrol vessel “MAI 3064” are rendering assistance.

Aaaaaaaaaand of course all mentioned vessels currently do not transmit their position/voyage details, as per usual. Not gonna be a simple job tracking them but for sure not impossible. Nicely done, guys.
EXCLUSIVE: In a joint investigation by @InsiderGeo × @SONARROW_OSINT , we identified a large-scale Russian military loading operation in Baltiysk. Between October 15 and 16, we observed the Russian cargo vessels ASCALON (IMO 9198226), LADY D (IMO 9349289) and ANASTASIIA (IMO 9349291) loading significant quantities of military equipment at the Kaliningrad naval base, including logistics vehicles, infantry vehicles, MRAPs and troop transports.
A rotation of other cargo vessels also appears to have taken place in the days before and after, although heavy cloud cover over the period makes this difficult to confirm.
One or more large convoys are likely already underway. Their destination(s) remain unknown at this time.
@TiaFarris10 I'd argue it's multifactor: logistical constraints due to the ongoing war in Ukraine and the resulting economical/logistical burden, a median hull age of cca. 31 years which also brings overstretching and priority shifting towards the Baltic Sea and Atlantic Ocean.

Succint analysis of the SAR satellite image of the Gvardeisky OTH radar installation site in Kaliningrad Oblast that ICEEYE provided recently (taken in August). The radar in question is one 29Б6 «Контейнер» (29B6 Container) OTH radar, with an estimated range of cca. 3,000 km.

So far there have been no observed receiving installations in construction, which strongly suggests that the Gvardeisky site will also work with the Kovylkino receiver.
@CoffeReport There's also some Hi-res satellite imagery from October 2025 of both the Gvardeysk and Chernyakhovskiy sites, I think I'm gonna go out and have some IMINT fun with those. Would it be okay if I'd tag you once I'm done with it?
Since the weather is not adverse (at least according to Windy), I‘d say it is likely that the “Valentin Rykov” is currently replenishing the Baltic Fleet‘s Project 11540 «Yastreb» frigate “Neustrashimyy”.

Now here‘s an interesting activity: the “Valentin Rykov” replenishment oiler is around 50 NM of Dover Strait with Restricted Manoeuvrability, while 16 NM S-SE of it there's the HMS “Prince of Wales” aircraft carrier & the Type-45 destroyer HMS “Dauntless”.
