All Black PhD's are in Social Studies
NSF Survey of Earned Doctorates (2022 data for U.S. citizens/permanent residents): ~2,647 Black PhDs total. Roughly 22% in education (Blacks are ~18% of all education PhDs). Largest S&E numbers: biological sciences (321), psychology (288), social sciences (295), health sciences (272), engineering (187). Far fewer in physical sciences (81), computer science (42), math/stats (26). Blacks are 6% of S&E PhDs overall but under 2% in many hard STEM subfields.
Possibly the most remarkable fact about cognitive inequality in America:
On the SAT, Asian kids whose parents DID NOT FINISH HIGH SCHOOL crush black kids whose parents HAVE PHDs — outscoring them by 100 points.
