@GWorldTrav@DrBradJohnson This is a misrepresentation comment about teacher salaries. I have two master degrees and two certificates in my field yet I am paid less than $65K. Thus, I have decided to change my profession in order to be paid fairly although I love teaching.
@ValentinaESL They called me again for a detailed explanation. I told them that providing an appropriate physical space aligns with their individual rights and those rights should be recognized and providing a space is the first step to welcoming those rights. They provided a space then.
@jen_esl@HadeelAzzo @SheikoLarkin I like the activity but some of the words are tier 3 content-specific vocabulary items that newcomers shouldn’t be exposed to yet.
@emilyfranESL I must admit that just by following you through Tweeter I bought the same book and read it with my students. We are through the end of the book. Sketchnoting activities might be good exit tickets for the post-reading.
@AndreaHonigsfel@SDLBACK This was the first time meeting you! I need to admit that I was moved by your positivity and practicality during the webinar. Thanks for the positive vibes!
😻Engagement is (almost) EVERYTHING right now. If we can't get ELs to attend & be interested in synchronous sessions, they are losing out on language development. @irina_mcgrath & I developed these hooks for 👄🔖✍️&👂. #JCPSESL#ELLChat

@ValentinaESL Since we are all online, I think it is just the time for content teachers to reach students by scaffolding their instructions via visuals as it will help leveraging learning process by adding on students’ pre-existing knowledge which would be their current lang proficiency level.
3-visualizing the word by drawing, finding word relatives, providing examples and non-examples, and creating small cartoons. But I feel like this is investing a lot of instructional time for vocabulary development. Any thoughts of teaching vocabulary effectively to ELLs?
1-When it comes to teaching vocabulary to ELLs, I feel pressure to provide instruction at two phases where I follow with certain steps.
For phase 1 (for Authentic Exposure); writing the word, indicating parts of the speech, providing phonetic transcriptions of the word,+++
2-providing the definition of the word and using the word in an authentic sentence. As for phase 2( whether individual or group work); asking students to define the term in their own words, contextualizing it through authentic examples by using the word in a sentence, +++
