Fortunately not too late for me to post our display on @BLACKCAPS cricket in @HomeOfCricket museum, featuring items from their first tour of UK in 1927, 2nd oldest book on New Zealand cricket, Lord's scorecard of 1st Test in UK 1931, Glenn Turners bat & Richard Hadlee's sweatband
1/ Most sources claim that NZ, WI, IND were granted test status and full membership of the ICC at a meeting at Lord's 100 years ago today. This now appears to be a myth, perpetuated over many years, as the minutes of the meeting make no mention of this whatsoever.
Bob Sutton, left-arm fast bowler for @aucklandcricket is 86 today. Most unlucky to never play for New Zealand. Took 156 wickets at 22.41 overall, including 29 at 17.51 in 1963/64 when Auckland won the Plunket Shield. Formed a formidable opening bowling combination with Bob Cunis.
Yes, it was Peterborough. Interestingly, NZ wore a different style of 'black cap' on the previous tour to UK in 1927. The silver fern emblem faced the opposite direction i.e. the tip pointed down to the left as per the image of skipper Tom Lowry showing in a group photo.
The black cap is clearly displayed in this pic of Ian Cromb preparing for the game against Northamptonshire in 1931. Standing next to him is Ron Talbot who scored 66 & hit a massive six in the MCC match.
@FPayne100@BLACKCAPS In 1924 as a 16 year old played for North Otago XIII v NSW at Waitaki Boys’ High Oamuru his school ground. Batted 11 and made 8 bowled by Stork Hendry. Took 0-81 opening the bowling but caught Tommy Andrews (105) in the drawn match.
Obtained this book about post-WW2 life in Egypt, only to discover the prolific author is the granddaughter of 'Plum' Warner. There are several insights about him.
Arthur Watson's may not be a household name, but it sounds like his story is an interesting one nonetheless @CricketWebNet@SeanEhlers@PatRodgers2 https://t.co/s1H1lwxXYJ
Before the shiny new stadium, there was the old Recreation Ground in St John's, Antigua. It was a festival where legends like Sir Viv and Sir Curtly were forged.
The party never stopped there. Here's why this ground is pure heritage gold... 🧵
