Research on base editing for PCSK9 is moving forward with impressive results. A single infusion of Verve-102 base editor leads to a sustained, up to 60% lowering of LDLc (and > 80% of PCSK9) overtime๐๐ #EASCongress2026@society_eas@skathire@drpablocorral@Drlipid
#EASCongress2026 A new actionable pathway is tested in a phase 1 study by @ProfKausikRay and collaborators. Rivonoplast, a potent inhibitor of NLRP3 inflamassome led to early and sustained reversible sCRP reduction compared to placebo. (Follow next tweet๐๐)
#EASCongress2026@AndreZimerman presents a late breaker clinical trial exploring olezarsen for acute pancreatitins in pts w/triglycerides>10 mMol/L. As can be seen, a stark difference in favour of Olezarsen in this cohort highly exposed to risk of acute pancreatitis.
Thread #1 This afternoon, there will be an unmissable late-breaker presentation by @ProfKausikRay, at Aravanis Hall, exploring NLRP3 inflamassome inibition in humans with inflammatory residual risk for ASCVD, as depicted below (Read following tweet for additional information)
Thread # 2 Ruvonoplast is a pro-drug that crosses the blood-brain barrier and is converted intracellularly into its active metabolite (Also yielding potential benefits for treatment of neurological diseases such as LAS, Parkinson and even Alzheimer). ๐๐
Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) remains the worldโs leading cause of death, despite major advances in lipid testing and treatment. Many patients with familial hypercholesterolaemia (FH), elevated lipoprotein(a), severe hypertriglyceridaemia, and other complex lipid disorders still lack access to specialized care and evidence-based therapies.
This consensus paper from the EAS Lipid Clinic Network provides practical recommendations on how lipid clinics can be organized and strengthened worldwide. It covers education, staffing, patient pathways, registries, and healthcare policy to improve prevention and reduce long-term healthcare costs.
New therapies and diagnostic tools are rapidly emerging, while cardiovascular disease continues to place a major burden on healthcare systems. A 2024 EAS Lipid Clinic Network survey also revealed major inequalities in access to lipid clinics and treatment implementation across countries.
The EAS is a global leader in lipid research, education, and guideline development. Through its international Lipid Clinic Network, the Society brings together experts, healthcare professionals, and patient representatives to deliver practical, evidence-based recommendations for real-world care.

@williedunnam@society_eas@skathire@drpablocorral@Drlipid ApoB is the best predictor of ASCVD risk but its measurement usually comes out of the patient's pocket. Since there's a fairly good correlation w/ non-HDL cholesterol, we use it instead. Lp(a) is highly atherogenic "per particle" but largely outnumbered by LDL particles.
