📢 Summary of the panel: DeFi, Reality or Fiction?

Here are some of the main takeaways from the topics we discussed:

1️⃣ Adoption
We explored whether networks like Solana, Sui, or Ethereum could lead the global system. The key reflection was that, "the newer a network is, the better its technology tends to be, and that is hard to argue with. However, a network like Ethereum, after so many years in operation, has a much larger user base, more development activity, and far more TVL. There is, therefore, a balance: Sui would love to have those users, and Ethereum would love to have that newer technology."

We also touched on how difficult it is to introduce upgrades in networks that are already live, something Vitalik once compared to "changing a part of an engine while it is running."

2️⃣ Crypto and the dollar’s dominance
We also discussed whether cryptocurrencies are taking away the dollar’s dominance. "It may seem that way, but in the end, when we use stablecoins, we are still using the dollar. In that sense, rather than a replacement, what exists is a symbiotic relationship between the dollar and the crypto ecosystem."

3️⃣ DeFi on Bitcoin
"Right now, people are exploring how to generate yield on BTC. However, as of today, the only available solutions involve moving Bitcoin to another layer or to a Bitcoin L2, and at that point, it would no longer be Bitcoin in its purest form."

4️⃣ Banking and DeFi
"Banks are increasingly starting to offer users access to DeFi. This means they will no longer have to deal directly with wallets or other technical barriers, because banks will make that access easier for them."

5️⃣ MiCA and regulation
"Clear regulation is a positive thing, because it helps attract capital and also more relevant players to the sector." At the same time, it was pointed out that "bureaucracy is a cross-cutting issue that affects the European regulatory framework as a whole."
