@Brent_Kilman Our elders do these visits periodically and our elders are wonderful, but I don't enjoy these visits. I just feel put on the spot and anxious and I never know what to say.
@GeorgeSayour On the wide spectrum of less-than-perfect but still relatively appropriate responses to this situation, Ince jumped all the way to the most inappropriate, most antithetical to Reformed church order course of action.
@GeorgeSayour Even allowing for the (still doubtful) case they were truly surprised AND inital reactions to an awkward surprise aren't always ideal, celebrating him was not simply a poor response to the unexpected - Ince made that choice.
@thisisfoster @GraceMosaic Their senior pastor had also recently left, and he mentioned in the letter about not leaving the church without a pastor. It seems more likely to me the session knew his intent and kept him on for convenience anyway than that he lied or deceived them.
@ZGroff In my church, our Pastor Emeritus was removed from office and placed under church discipline for joining Rome. We were completely heartbroken. ๐ I'm curious if this congregation even realizes that they SHOULD be heartbroken, about both Littlepage and their leaders' response.
@mgbrown1543 But that is what MacArthur believes. He doesn't really believe in mental health disorders or issues. He believes everything can be solved with repentance and other spiritual means. He knows exactly what he's saying.
@danborvan At one point I think there was some kind of service out there that you could essentially subscribe to pre-written sermons. I remember being shocked by it.
@ExaminingMoscow@sarahstankorb I appreciate this quote because it says so succinctly and perfectly something I understood about men like Wilson and Gothard but couldn't find the words for.
@ExaminingMoscow@sarahstankorb Does this book discuss John MacArthur? I'm not sure he preaches it from the pulpit exactly, but the views of his counseling ministry and the very credible allegations that he covered for abuse would certainly put him in the category of building a system to hide abuse in.
