“The word nationalism became a dirty word.”
Secretary of State Marco Rubio says the West turned against the very things that once defined its strength, saying nations grew ashamed of their history, prosperity, and achievements.
“We tore down our monuments. We condemned our own history, and in too many places, we taught our children to be ashamed of the countries they would inherit.”
Rubio ties that cultural shift to decisions on borders, industry, military strength, and national sovereignty, as more power was handed to global institutions.
An open letter signed by thousands of clergy, monastics, and laypeople of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church has officially been filed for the consideration of Patriarch Daniil and the Bulgarian Synod calling for the concelebration of services with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew not to be permitted at Rila Monastery on October 19.
They cite his likely commemoration of Epiphany Dumenko and the OCU while presiding as unacceptable and say he has “legitimized schism.”
Archimandrite John Filipov, one of the signers, writes:
“With all due respect for his rank, zealous Orthodox Christians among our church people do not wish to pretend that everything is supposedly fine and hypocritically receive him as ‘the good shepherd,’ but wish to demonstrate their disagreement with his anti-dogmatic and anti-canonical actions.”
BOB COSTAS: “God himself helps those who dare" is a phrase we've all pondered over when reading Ovid's Metamorphoses. Today, eight Major League Baseball teams will dare to be great like Daedalus and Icarus did eons ago above Crete.
ANTHONY RIZZO: I like the Phillies in 3.
@HellenicEchoes It used to be all Greek, at least on the East Coast, until the mid-2000s. Now, only the inner city parishes will be only Greek and not even some of those now.
The 1999 ALCS didn't give us a lot to smile about, but game 3 was epic. The Herald's fight card cover from October 16 has been on my office wall for decades.
As I’ve said to you before, you are not anywhere near as accurate as you present yourself to be.
Our synods both enjoy our camaraderie. He is not a schismatic priest, nor does my Bishop think so.
The Red Sox are only the 4th MLB team EVER to go from 14 games under .500 to the postseason in the same year.
And life is short. If you put off celebrating an accomplishment because there’s the possibility of an even bigger one, you may never celebrate anything.
