Coimbatore: From Tier 1 Dreams to Tier 3 Reality?

It's disheartening to watch Coimbatore, once touted as a Tier 1 contender, slip into the shadows while other cities like Vizag, Kochi, and Trivandrum attract the investments that Coimbatore desperately needs.

With world-class infrastructure, top-notch policies, and big-ticket investments pouring into these cities, Coimbatore seems to have been left behind, no longer even a serious contender in the race for growth.

What went wrong? The blame lies squarely with both the state and central governments, who have completely failed to recognize Coimbatore’s potential. Instead of fostering growth and nurturing a city that has historically been an industrial powerhouse, we've watched it slowly fade into the background while other cities leap ahead.

The lack of long-term vision, poor policy implementation, and sheer indifference from the powers that be have ensured that Coimbatore is relegated from its rightful place as a future Tier 1 city to the level of a Tier 3 afterthought.

This is the price of governmental apathy and it’s costing us all.

Trump will soon hit India’s IT industry.

May be with duties, fines, and/or visa restrictions etc. Companies like TCS, Infosys, Wipro, and Cognizant must brace for it.

However, it is the employees of these IT companies, which have billions of dollars in cash but never invest in innovation and quality products, are likely to suffer the most.

These companies will likely resort to layoffs in India and reduced pays to “save money.”

In essence, these companies are indirectly working for the US to harm India’s economy and government. This is what Trump would want them to do by hitting them to attack Modi.

It is crucial that the GoI takes these companies to task if they behave in this manner.

The GoI should force these companies to use their idle cash to invest in startup funds, conduct research at universities, or develop new products to compete with American products.

I hope that the Trump tariff war will help our Indian IT companies change their useless behavior and prepare to compete with US tech giants.

This will not only benefit India but also foster its growth in tech self-reliance.

Coimbatore sees a steep rise in Residential Property Development

*Residential Units;

The number of new residential units launched in Coimbatore has grown 52% in 2024 compared with 2019.

*Housing Hubs;

There is a strong demand for mid-segment housing in the price range of ₹50 lakh to ₹70 lakh each and new housing hubs are coming up near the IT parks, including Keeranatham, Vilankurichi, Saravanampatti, and Kalapatti.

The premium villa projects in the price range of ₹2.5 crore to ₹3.5 crore are now popular among high network individuals and non-residential Indians.

*Office Space;

Market absorption has gone up by 2.3 times to 8.8 million sq.ft by 2024. The average rental value is ₹55 per sq.ft a month and in 2024 alone 1.4 million sq.ft was absorbed.

*Logistics & Industrial Space;

The availability has expanded 47% to 6.6 million sq.ft, and Coimbatore has captured 16 % of India’s total market share in the senior living sector.

*Retail - Two More Mall coming up;

The retail market space demand is driven by rapid urbanisation and rise in white collar employment. While there are three grade A malls, two more are coming up.
