Some thoughts on the OpenAI sale, as someone who recently spun a for-profit AI company out of a non-profit AI research lab:
1. Sam will have to recuse himself from the decision, ideally step down from the board.
He can't participate in the decision because of his conflict of interest. Sam can't decide what offers they accept or don't.
It's not clear what the independent board will do. Sam put the board together so they will probably vote in his favor.
Otoh, they are senior and experienced board members - I think they'll be careful about getting sued and audited.
