The Bankipur bypoll tells a more nuanced story than the headline suggests.

In the 2025 Assembly election:
• Turnout: 41.1%
• BJP: 63.25%
• RJD: 29.83%

In the 2026 bypoll:
• Turnout: 33.3% (down by nearly 8 percentage points)
• BJP: 34.4%
• RJD: 10.95%
• Jan Suraaj: 49.23%

The sharp fall in turnout meant every party was bound to lose votes. But the real story lies in who lost their support base.

Compared to 2025, the BJP retained over 54% of its earlier vote share, while the RJD retained just 37%. In other words, the BJP lost 45.6% of its previous vote share, whereas the RJD lost a staggering 63.3%.

That is a far steeper collapse.

The numbers strongly indicate that a substantial section of RJD’s traditional support shifted to Jan Suraaj, particularly in the absence of an energetic RJD campaign.

For the BJP, the lesson is equally clear. Lower turnout meant many of our core supporters stayed home. We will draw the right lessons, energise our organisation, reconnect with every voter, and move forward with renewed determination to deliver on our commitments to the people of Bihar.

2025 विधानसभा चुनाव
• मतदान: 41.1%
• भाजपा: 63.25%
• राजद: 29.83%

2026 उपचुनाव
• मतदान: 33.3% (लगभग 8% कम)
• भाजपा: 34.4%
• राजद: 10.95%
• जन सुराज: 49.23%

मतदान में लगभग 8% की गिरावट का असर सभी दलों पर पड़ना स्वा���ाविक था। लेकिन असली सवाल यह है कि किस दल का जनाधार सबसे अधिक खिसका।

2025 की तुलना में भाजपा अपने 54% से अधिक वोट शेयर को बचाने में सफल रही, जबकि राजद अपने पुराने वोट शेयर का सिर्फ़ 37% ही बचा पाई। दूसरे शब्दों में, भाजपा के वोट शेयर में 45.6% की गिरावट आई, जबकि राजद के वोट शेयर में 63.3% की भारी गिरावट दर्ज हुई।

यानी, अनुपात के हिसाब से राजद का जनाधार भाजपा की तुलना में कहीं अधिक तेजी से खिसका।

यह साफ़ संकेत है कि राजद का एक बड़ा पारंपरिक वोट बैंक जन सुराज की ओर स्थानांतरित हुआ। तेजस्वी यादव की चुनावी अभियान से दूरी ने भी इसमें भूमिका निभाई।

भाजपा के लिए भी संदेश स्पष्ट है। कम मतदान के कारण हमारे कई समर्थक मतदान केंद्र तक नहीं पहुँचे। हम इस परिणाम से सही सबक लेंगे, अपने संगठन को और मज़��ूत करेंगे, हर कार्यकर्ता और मतदाता तक पहुँचेंगे तथा जनता से किए गए अपने वादों को पूरा करने के संकल्प के साथ और अधिक मजबूती से आगे बढ़ेंगे।
