"Speech Sounds," was very interesting. While reading the story it was like commentary. I was definitely on the edge of my seat while reading it even though there wasn't a single word said.

In Bibi's story I found it very interesting how the community tried to help her heal as best as they could. I feel like the community connected because of her disability. I also think that's why "we" is used to so often in the text. #XUENGL205

In the Helen and Frida, it was a very confusing read that compared sexuality and disability. I kind of still have some trouble understanding it, but some of the other comments helped me understand it a little better. #XUENGL205

In Republica and Grau, I feel like the stories represents crabs in a barrel like there is always someone trying to pull you down when you start to do better. I feel like the blind man was really manipulative to everyone even the ones on his sides. #XUENGL205

"A Manual for Cleaning Women," made me think about the movie, "The Help." I feel like both stories help provide the perspective a working class citziens who tried to make their own community to make the way people treat them feasible. #XUENGL205

I loved the end of the story. I felt like that was the best part when Michael stood up for himself and what he believed in! I feel like it showed that he not only learned to love himself but also that he didn't need people to love him for something he wasn't.

I feel like finding out that Destiny and Kieran were siblings made a big difference in the story because it showed that people don't really acknowledge discrimination unless it directly affects them. #XUENGL205

@BellaBrancato I agree with you. I feel like this is the first time Michael (as a black male) has experienced racial discrimination outside of his immediate group of people.

When Michael went to university I feel like we had a precursor that he would have some issues with racial community when his uncle got stopped on the way there. It was the first time it was mentioned and then when he got to school he felt like he didn't fit in. #XUENGL205
