The reason you see me repeatedly call out Igbo politicians is because I worked in the National Assembly in Abuja for four good years as an SA on New Media to a Senator.
I sat firsthand in committee meetings and saw how senators from the North, South and West discussed projects for their regions. I saw how projects were inserted into budgets, how they were negotiated, and how some were removed.
And I can categorically tell you that the Southeast has had some of the worst Senators and House of Representatives members for a very long time. This didn’t start today.
When you see how some Northern senators insist that projects MUST be inserted into the yearly budget for their people, you begin to wonder what many of our Southeast politicians are doing in Abuja.
Worse still, in some cases, projects meant for their people are awarded, the money is collected, and the projects are never executed.
Think about it.
Deep seaports in the Southwest. Major projects across the North. Yet we keep hearing that the Southeast has benefited tremendously from Tinubu’s APC government.
Okay, point to the major completed project in the Southeast by this administration that matches what other regions are getting.
What is it?
But I can’t even put all the blame on Tinubu and his APC-led government.
One of the most mind-blowing examples is that during President Obasanjo’s administration, the Southeast held some of the choicest ministerial positions in Nigeria, yet we couldn’t even turn Enugu Airport into a proper international airport.
So when it comes to actual RESULTS, I keep asking:
What exactly are Southeast Senators bargaining for in Abuja?
What are our House of Reps members bargaining for?
What are our Governors bargaining for?
Because politics is about negotiation, representation and bringing something home to your people.
So what exactly are they bringing home?
