@the_transit_guy One of the issues is that cars are widely seen as a superior mode of transit to trains. For lower-density areas, this is accurate, but for higher-density areas like downtowns, it really isn't. IMO urban zones over 10 stories should be car-free except for residents and deliveries.
@TheMiamiApe LOL. People clap appreciatively at the end of flights and movies. In the plane, the audience is clapping for the crew, but at the movies, they are clapping for the movie, rather than the projector operator.
@the_transit_guy One option for high speed rail is just to build on existing highway lanes. The government already owns the land and eminent domain isn't necessary. The land has also already been developed for transportation.
@snowmaker My favorite source for ideas is stories of invention from the past. Stories like Samuel Morse and the telegraph machine have something to teach everyone.
@laurenlself Super Guppy at bottom right! Silliest airplane design ever. Amazing it flew. Maybe rivaled in silliness only by the Airbus Beluga [and even there the humor derives mostly from the paint job].
@HarrisFanaroff The things that are cool/uncool on social media change very quickly much like slang. Advice in this category would be especially helpful for Boomers and Gen X, but all demographics could benefit.
@HarrisFanaroff LOL - advising people and helping them avoid posting cringeworthy things on social media would be a novel and probably well-received category of advice. It would help people keep up with the times. First mover advantage to whoever gets there first π
@victor_bigfield TikTok is a great example of how an excellent interface can become a phenomenal asset. You go into TikTok, and it just starts playing video for you. No action needed. Same with Insta. Ironically now, Insta and Tiktok are now competing over the same kind of interface.
@victor_bigfield Through history, a lot of the progress with machines has related to interfaces. Apple did this through the GUI. They did it again with the iPhone. App development now is an interface contest. The app with the best interface gets the traffic.
@victor_bigfield I saw a rude post a few days ago talking about how nontechnical startup people are useless. The thing is - an ideal model customer can be a force multiplier. Someone who knows the customer and can design products to meet their demand has a valuable skill.
