The Hon. Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation, Hon. Eng. Jonard Asiimwe Akiiki, met with the Directorate of Socio-Economic Monitoring and Research, led by the Minister of State for Economic Monitoring – Office of the President, Hon. Sandra Santa Alum, together with the STI Secretariat team, for a briefing on the performance assessment of National Innovation Fund projects.
Undertaken following a Presidential directive, the assessment provides an independent view of achievements and existing gaps and will, where necessary, inform the new STI Policy aimed at strengthening the impact of Government investment in science, technology and innovation.
“Our Ministry is the yolk, not the egg; we are at the centre, connecting with every Ministry. We are open to working with everyone, as long as we are collectively working towards achieving President Museveni’s vision.” Hon. Eng. Jonard Asiimwe Akiiki - Minister for Science, Technology and innovation - OP.
The Ministry remains committed to creating an enabling environment that transforms research and innovation into commercially viable products, enterprises and industries that create jobs, generate wealth and drive Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.

Today I returned to my alma mater, Busitema University - Main Campus, not for ceremony but to concretize a deliberate shift in Uganda’s development architecture anchoring national transformation in science-led, locally engineered industrial capacity. The handover of the Electric Bus and commissioning of the high-capacity DC fast charging infrastructure is not symbolic; it is an operational proof-point that advanced mobility systems can be conceived, assembled, and deployed within our own institutional ecosystem. It signals a decisive break from import-dependent technological consumption toward an embedded culture of design, prototyping, and systems engineering that actively shapes our macroeconomic direction. In practical terms, it affirms that innovation is no longer peripheral to national planning but is becoming its structural core.
Through the innovation exhibition and sustained technical engagements with researchers, faculty, and students, the university is being repositioned as a production node of knowledge, not merely a repository of it, where theory is continuously stress-tested against industrial application. This academia industry interface is being deliberately tightened to accelerate translation of research into scalable technological outputs capable of anchoring a self-sustaining industrial economy. The implications extend beyond demonstration; they point to an emerging pipeline for value creation, technical skills deepening, and industrial readiness.

Over the past 2 days, the @PathogenEconomy Bureau under @STIsecretariat
successfully conducted a 2-day training workshop for indigenous scientists (herbalists).
The training was held in collaboration with:
@UVRIug@Makerere@clarf_ug@Lung_Institute@UNDAuthority
The workshop equipped participants with critical knowledge and skills to enhance the quality, safety, and standardization of their herbal products.
STI-OP remains fully committed to supporting indigenous scientists in scientifically validating their innovations. By proving safety and efficacy, these products can confidently access larger local, regional, and international markets.

"Uganda is not ignoring these emerging disruptions in science, technology, and innovation. Innovators, whom you know by name, or sat with in the same class, or went to the same schools are creating Uganda-made products, patented technology, and patented industrial, commercial research and development.
We are working together to drive a tenfold vision by 2040. STI is an egg yolk, an accelerating force that will crosscut almost every ministry, especially ATMs." The Hon. Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation -OP was quoted.

Press Conference: “The disruption is real, jobs are being lost and we still have jobs that should have been abolished a long time ago. Industrial revolutions are unapologetic.” Science Minister Hon. Innovation doesn’t become an economy by accident.
We’re celebrating @STIsecretariat turning Ugandan ideas into economic output, but when creators & digital workers start earning, the 1st GOVT touchpoint shouldn’t be compliance, but, enablement 📌
