@NOLAnews Thank you Marie Fazio and @nola.com for highlighting my career and our wonderful Discovery Schools Network. My career has been amazing and rewarding, & now it is time to pass the baton to our very capable leadership team. @OchsnerHealth

@LAPCSTeam Looking forward to learning and networking with colleagues at #LCSC in NOLA. Thanks to the @LAPCSTeam for helping us honor and work for #schoolchoice.
@plthomasEdD That’s the problem. Phonics is only a beginning. Phonics is one tool in the “how to read” box, but it can’t be used in isolation. The only way to encompass all the quirks and inconsistencies of English is to immerse children in a sea of language.
As someone who has taught reading intervention, I’m pretty quiet on the reading wars except to say that when you use the term “war” you will end up with casualties. You’ll dehumanize. You’ll create enemies in a way that prevents dialogue.
Phonics matter. Blending matters. Stories matter. Prior knowledge matters. Helping kids fall in loving with reading matters.
I want to see kids read. I’m not interested in warfare.
I just donated $125 to Discovery Schools to help fill library shelves. We believe in early literacy and giving students multiple opportunities to read books.
Will you join me please? https://t.co/V2lrFkkQvx
With your #GiveNOLADay donation, we can fill our library shelves. You can give early today, or wait until tomorrow to donate!
