@Charlie_Hicks_ Skeptical about whether traffic lights are going to make anything better. Certainly going to make matters worse for walking and cycling.

@blockleymasons@bigdamo It's an academic term (-ity, not -ism) referring to the phenomenon that many people think that harms caused by cars are acceptable whereas the same harms caused in other ways are unacceptable.
@OxfordshireCC What good news! Can't understand the noisy minority moaning about the loss of a few carparking spaces in one of the most beautiful parts of the city.
86 headteachers have written an open letter to Mayor Rahman, expressing deep concern over his decision to prioritize cars over student safety in Bethnal Green and urging him to reconsider.
The Mayor has consistently ignored vital input from schools.

@phillipsme I'm sorry to hear that. I agree - some of our local officers are not sufficiently familiar with the local and national guidance. Some are, but far too few at the moment.
@ado5433 I'm not sure that's necessarily a requirement. Eg Manual for Streets. It's only a 20mph road and in other areas of the town, the highways authority have allowed more direct crossings or smaller offsets:
risk users jump across islands (red line), cycle crossing > pedestrian footpath (red circle), abnormal orientation of paths & crossings (pedestrians sandwiched between cyclists & traffic), right > left offset (so users face away from traffic)...
@ado5433@BicesterBug I think here they're desperate not to lose face with the applicant. Going back with a new design will imply their previous approach was wrong.
@cyclisethecity @SiemensHealth@SiemensHealthPR @OxfordshireCC @Cherwellcouncil The problem is @OxfordshireCC officers know they are deemed to be the experts, even if they have limited expertise. It is almost impossible for @Cherwellcouncil planning to challenge them as they are not deemed to be experts.
the @OxfordshireCC officers are supposedly the 'experts' so they effectively can't be challenged by @Cherwellcouncil planning or anybody else. If they deem a substandard design 'acceptable' that's the end of it. But all this could have been avoided ...
