Some updated data from @Similarweb that shows the growth in LLM (desktop) usage over time worldwide between Sep 2024 - Jan 2026.
The first chart shows LLMs only. ChatGPT is still the leader, but hasn't bounced back to its Oct 25 usage. Gemini is still growing fast.
Second chart shows ChatGPT vs. Claude vs. Gemini usage - Claude is also growing, but it's still tiny compared to the other 2.
Third one layers on Google & Bing desktop usage compared to LLMs. Google grew a lot between Dec 25 and Jan 26.
Lots of misinformation still flying around our SEO space so I dug into some of the possible causes and the current category conflicts and wrote them up following my presentation at Women in Technical SEO

I quite agree: Data > Models
Take SaaS marketing software, we can pretty much build most of them. Unless they have data we need that we don't already have or collect ourselves.
Larry Ellison on the AI moat:
AI is commoditizing because models use the same public internet data.
The true competitive edge isn't the model itself anymore, but access to exclusive, proprietary datasets. That is the only moat left.

@sm1_smwhere@harpreetchatha_ Every single articles that goes live on https://t.co/ss9tVF0LZd is produced by a human. LLMs speed up some processes but majority of the production including writing is done by real people. We have a large editorial team.

Google Patent Info: If you thought AIOs angered people, just wait for AI-generated landing pages from Google. Yes, Google could create new landing pages from the SERPs if yours isn't good enough (based on this patent). Great catch from Joshua Squires at Amsive on LinkedIn -> AI-generated content page tailored to a specific user
And sounds like it could be used for advertising AND organic... It's worth checking out the patent.
*The system would calculate a "landing page score" for the organization’s existing website. This score evaluates how well the current page meets the user's specific needs.
*If the existing landing page is deemed insufficient (the score exceeds a certain threshold for improvement), the system triggers the AI generation.
*An AI model leverages the user’s search context, location, and past preferences to pull data from the organization’s site and re-package it into a new, intuitive interface.
*The user sees an updated search result page with a navigation link leading to this custom AI-generated page rather than the standard URL. https://t.co/JFI5nijijx
At some point the AI Search platforms will build stronger anti-spam systems, have manual actions, take legal action against spammers, etc. I have covered that before. Here is how an established platform like Meta continues to tackle problems like that. ChatGPT and others will need to evolve -> Meta Takes Legal Action Against Scam Advertisers
What Meta is doing:
*Fighting Celeb-Bait Scams
*Exposing Subscription Fraud and Cloaking
*Combating Abusive Practices
*Our Ongoing Approach to Stopping Fraud https://t.co/jbrnEovQdX
