20 years ago, medical “never events" (e.g. leaving a sponge in a patient after surgery) were the "cost of doing business"–until we decided they were unacceptable.
Now, some hospitals are suing patients for bills, playing tax games, & more. These too should be #NeverEvents. 1/x
@DrBramPedsER I admire how the Stanford drill down method takes out the personal and the feelings from the discussion. There is no ‘we’ or ‘you’ or specific name. This tool can be used to deescalate tense debriefings.
#RCDP In Situ Sim in Emergency Center @TexasChildrens. Today’s key points: 1) in penetrating trauma, plan how to get out of trauma room (&to OR) ASAP. 2) in cardiac arrest, plan for shockable rhythm; optimize readiness for shock at each pulse/rhythm check. @DrBramPedsER@pemdoc

Thanks to our multi-disciplinary team in #PEM, EC nursing, Sim Center, and other areas for bringing back this recurring event. Under the leadership of Dr. Sharon Won @sharon1md. #SimulationSavesLives
@TXChildrensPEM @Pedisedationdoc@TCHQUEST@TexasChildrens@bcmhouston Today we had a chance to teach a group of 3 residents. Adapting to different numbers of learners especially when smaller than our typical resuscitation team size is challenging. I often run with similar choreography but have instructors play roles or leave specific jobs out.
