@IsabellaAmara1 Hi Isabella, can I please slide in your DM. I’m looking for a Nigerian in Sweden to talk to enquire about a purchase I want to make from Plick 🙏
First week after leaving Nigeria, I was on a call at work and one of the guys just kept staring at me.
At one point he blurted out, “Victor, there’s something different about you but I can’t place it.”
So I was like, “What’s different?” I continue with my presentation and then after the call he goes, “I’m sorry I kept staring at you but you look so visibly relaxed today.”
I didn’t think much of it . I didn’t even tell anyone in the company I was relocating. Only my manager knew.
It was only much later that it dawned on me. Back in Nigeria, every time I was making a presentation on a call, I’m mentally stressing at the back of my mind; hopefully my internet doesn’t disconnect, the inverter doesn’t go off, the light doesn’t go off.
I’m processing all of that and it’s showing on my face without me even knowing.
Just one week after leaving, I’m on a presentation and none of that is running in the background anymore.
Back home I had a backup for the backup of my backups; for electricity and for internet. I actually pray for decent supply of electricity and solid internet connectivity during my morning prayers.🤣
So yeah, I feel you on the quality of life point.
@iam_oluwafunso They did mention that it was a problem with the whole of Yaba. So I’m not the only one, it’s just annoying to be seeing constant reminders to renew my subscription that haven’t finished when there’s still downtime.
i remember coming here to cry about how hard it was to land roles outside the country.
people gave me advice, sent me resources, and some reviewed my resume.
job hunting messed with my psyche and self-confidence. i don't think i'll recover in a while.
so funny that after i gave up on applications, i landed this role without a resume. my open source contributions spoke for me.
it's really not of him that runneth. God does show mercy.
