commutes to Oxford, sometimes I cycle and sometimes in the car, looking for a SAFE, efficient, flexible sustainable commuting silver bullet… still looking….
@EmilyKerr36 The Isle is Wight was very good although maybe a little rural/touristy. Try Googling Bristol cycling map if you are after a good commuting example
@thameswater You must be able to provide an estimated time that A: water will be restored, B: the road will reopen @thameswater, it would help 1000’s people plan, hours? Days? Weeks?
Take a bow @OxfordshireCC, narrow and dangerous advisory cycle lanes on Wallingford bridge removed that many cyclists felt they had to use. Far safer now, drivers wait with no more illegal close passes👏 @OxonCyclingNet#wallingford#cyclinglife
@CyclingCardiff @OxfordshireCC @OxonCyclingNet Is it not better than squeezing in narrow cycle lanes that cyclists are guilted into using that promote close passing? Not sure what you can do on a bridge that is that old with limited resources
@2wheelsgoodBrum @OxfordshireCC @OxonCyclingNet Apologies Tim, mine was a quick and re-reading it badly worded reply so I have deleted it. I was agreeing with you, I was trying to go on and make the point that although it is easy they must find it difficult based on new Oxford cycle lanes that sadly promotes close passing
@HolyBollards @epageperron @vix1305 I’ve just praised OCC for taking away the cycle lanes on Wallingford bridge, I emailed them prior to the Cowley install to say the narrow cycle lanes just aren’t safe as people will close pass… it needs bigger and bolder thinking than this if they are serious about it
@epageperron @vix1305 @HolyBollards This is why they are called murder strips, cyclists are guilted into using them even when they are narrow and drivers pass just ten other side of the line. It’s safer without IMHO. They need to be 3m wide without restricting vehicles or not at all.
@magicbeanz1986 @citycyclists @OxfordshireCC @OxonCyclingNet Sadly they didn’t have the following in 1810 when the bridge was rebuilt https://t.co/CuRg6uy9nH
@luton_paul@OxonCyclingNet @OxfordshireCC Sharrows or no sharrows at least the murder strips have been removed. I’m far more in favour of this option than squeezing in narrow cycle or lanes or wide ones that drivers straddle when there isn’t room. I’m convinced drivers pass wider when there isn’t a line of white paint
