Geoffrey Hinton shuts down Jensen Huang's criticism of him:
"Jensen has good reason for saying AI's not dangerous because he wants to sell more Nvidia chips"
This is TESCREAL pro-extinctionism. I have been screaming about it for YEARS. The “good” outcome is one in which humanity dies out. I’m fucking serious about this, and people—the media—need to WAKE UP.
There are intelligent defenses of AI but this is just not one of them. This is nothing like the invention of the printing press or the automobile or the airplane or anything else. AI is not merely a faster and more efficient tool for humans to use (as was the case with the printing press and cars etc). The whole point of AI is that it takes human out of the equation entirely. Horse and buggy drivers had to get used to driving cars instead. AI at scale means nobody drives at all. That category of job is not simply changed. It’s eliminated. Now repeat that process across the entire economy. Now add in RSI and humans don’t even make or train AI anymore. AI just does everything. Thats the concern and it’s obviously, at the very least, legitimate and rational. The pro-AI side relentlessly strawmanning and pretending not to understand the very basic point being made is, to say the least, frustrating.
Men utan några fundamentala genombrott?
@VraserX Who would care about some jobs when extinction is on the table..
Narrow AI that cure cancers and so on is great! What isn’t as great is AGI->RSI->ASI->controll loss->death….
Big Tech oligarchs are secretly preparing for a “catastrophic AI event” that could threaten our banking, healthcare, internet, electricity and water systems.
They’re racing to build a technology they can’t control and that threatens humanity.
CONGRESS MUST PAUSE ADVANCED AI DEVELOPMENT NOW.
According to a new Quinnipiac poll:
• 91% of Americans think it's important to put guardrails on AI
• 73% worry AI could threaten humanity
• 72% oppose new data centers in their community.
So what have Republicans in Congress done to regulate AI over the past two years?
NOTHING.
