🚅 Modernizing the system to a fast, frequent, electric Regional Rail operating model is a better use of taxpayer money.
🚅 Ridership will go up, operating costs per trip will go down, & trains will be far more reliable.
🚨 New report alert!
➡️ The legislature, @MassGovernor, @MassDOT, & @MBTA cannot afford to wait for the T’s crisis to end to begin making investments in transforming the Commuter Rail into Regional Rail.
🧵 Let’s talk about WHY Regional Rail is important & HOW to make it happen
No one has ever done more to convince me of the need for automated traffic enforcement than the number of drivers I watched blow red lights (some slowly and deliberately) on my bike trip from Wellington to Inman this morning. There needs to be a disincentive for this behavior
"Public investment" vs "Wasteful Subsidy." The only problem with this clever classic Singer cartoon is that some people might not get that it’s illustrating the perception problem, NOT telling the truth.
Just in case it actually needs to be said, the truth is the opposite.
I don’t know if @Amtrak upgraded their wifi recently but this is the second straight Northeast Regional trip I’ve had where I I’ve been able to work unrestricted, and that hasn’t been true in all the years I’ve been riding the NEC
I feel like the public murder of Jordan Neely is the perfect bizzarro Bernie Goetz Moment of this bizzarro rehash of the 80s some people seem to think NYC is having. Guy was being annoying, not threatening, and some guy decided that was cause for violence and death. Very sad
@UrbEducator Fair, but they should improve the RTAs for the other 2/3rd of the state that aren’t covered by the T. If Vermont can have that quality of access we can do it in the non-T areas
How does your state stack up on transit quality? We @T4America mapped 1) an indexed measure of transit access quality and 2) VMT per person as a proxy measure of ridership.

The sheer audacity of saying "We'll just need tighter budgets" after proposing massive tax cuts for the rich and large estates

PSA: The WGA strike may mean that novelists & authors get approached for screenwriting. While this may seem like a perfect opportunity, please note that the WGA does strongly enforces its right to prevent non-members who have engaged in scabbing from ever becoming members.
I rag on the @mbta when things are bad, and they still are. But today’s orange line commute had ONE slow zone from Wellington to State. That’s down from three or four two weeks ago and gives so much hope
“Women shall have equal rights in the [U.S.] & every place subject to its jurisdiction. Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the [U.S.] or by any State on account of sex.”
Senate Republicans just voted to block that from going in the Constitution.

This is a regional problem with a regional solution.
When communities in Greater Boston make the conscious decision to fight new housing… to fight zoning changes… you’re harming real people and you’re ruining our region’s future and the lives of millions in the process.
