In a world of masks, perceptions shape mingling

𝘙𝘦𝘧𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘈𝘧𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘢 𝘍𝘰𝘳𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘚𝘶𝘮𝘮𝘪𝘵: 𝘈 𝘚𝘩𝘰𝘸𝘤𝘢𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘊𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘦, 𝘖𝘸𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘊𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺

The recently concluded Africa Forward Summit, held from 11- 12 May 2026 at @KICC Kenya and other venues in Nairobi, was more than a conference. Three lasting attributes stood out for me:

1️⃣ First, it was about #𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞. The courage by Kenya, and Africa, to try new ways; to shift the narrative from that of a continent looking to the past to one boldly forging the path forward.

2️⃣ Second, it was about #𝐨𝐰𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩. It was about Africa stepping forward to own its future and to co-author, on equal terms, the partnerships that will shape it.

3️⃣ And third, it was about #𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲. It was about Kenya reminding the world that it has what it takes to convene at the highest levels. A showcase of infrastructural readiness, security, preparedness and the institutional maturity required to host the world.

The success of #AfricaForward is, in every sense, a vote of confidence in Brand Kenya. It builds on a remarkable run that has already established Nairobi as one of the world's premier convening hubs, including the inaugural Africa Climate Summit in September 2023, the IDA for Africa Heads of State Summit in April 2024, the 24th COMESA Summit of Heads of State and Government in October 2025, among many other regional and global convenings.

These reflections formed the basis of my meeting with #KICC #CEO, CPA James Mwaura, when he called on me at the Kenya High Commission in London. I was priviledged to get an immediate debrief from the CEO, including the operational, logistical and protocol choreography involved in hosting 30+ Heads of State and Government, alongside numerous senior heads of international multilateral institutions and global CEOs over the two days of the Summit.

Our discussion also explored practical ways in which the @KenyaMissionUK can support KICC in positioning Nairobi, and Kenya more precisely, as the go-to convening destination in Africa. These include strengthening the linkage between London and Nairobi as global centres of convening within the framework of the #StrategicPartnership 🇰🇪🇬🇧contributing to the wider conversation on urban transformation, including the Nairobi Railway City project; and promoting KICC as a historic architectural landmark.

Nairobi has once again proven that it is open to the world and reaffirmed its credentials as a global anchor for the most demanding convenings. The challenge is upon us to build on the success of #AfricaForward and on its remarkable showcase of #courage, #ownership and distinct #capability.

I thank CPA James Mwaura and his team for the visit, and look forward to working in concert with him and his team in the months ahead.
