So a whole minister has lost twice in court. The department has to pay costs for both applications, and he still hasn't done what the court has ordered.
So much for the DA difference.
WATCH | Political economist Moeletsi Mbeki says the country's biggest problem is that too much money is spent on public servants' salaries rather than investments.
FF+ leader Corné Mulder has warned that Geordin Hill-Lewis’s remarks on Donald Trump and Elon Musk could damage South Africa’s ability to attract investment. With growth weak and unemployment above 30%, he argues alienating key partners like the US risks deepening the economic crisis.

South Africa is facing a massive fuel price surge in April due to the Iran conflict. That is why the civil rights organisation AfriForum has urged the Minister of Finance to cut the fuel levy to provide relief to the South African economy and consumers.

The great conflict of our age is between those on the side of love and gratitude, who seek to build and preserve; and those on the wide of hatred and envy, who seek to destroy.
During my interview with @BizNewsCOM today, I couldn’t emphasise it enough that we need to shift the debate and ask:
Why are you really wanting to disarm the law-abiding people in the country? The only logical answer to me is that they foresee some kind of government or State tyranny. The only reason why you would disarm law abiding populace is to do terrible things to them…

He's like a rock in a bag of fluffy blue marshmallows
The only member of the party who both means what he says, and whose membership is valuable enough that they have to give him the support he needs for the job
This thing that the DA is doing - celebrating the SA government as part of the GNU; but presenting itself as the opposition outside of the GNU - is not working.
I don't see how this can work out well for the party.
A future DA leader would be best advised not to take an Executive (Cabinet) position and devote their energy to developing and aritculating a real vision for the party rather than be distracted by the weight of a government portfolio.
My wife and I had dinner at another couples house, and after eating, the ladies left the table and went into the kitchen.
We were just sitting there talking, and I said, "Last night we went out to a new restaurant, and it was really good.
He said, "What was the name of the restaurant?"
I thought and I thought, and I just couldn't remember the name. Finally I said, "What is the name of that flower you give to someone you love? You know, the one that that's red and has thorns."
"Do you mean a rose?"
"Yes that's the one," I replied.
I then turn towards the kitchen and yelled, "Rose, what's the name of that restaurant we went to last night?"
The ANC is purposefully dragging South Africa into isolation and sanctions. There can be no other explanation for their behavior. A planned march against the USA, Fikile's stupid utterings, the endless anti-Trump narrative. They have no right to do this. Yet here we are. Insane!
WATCH: Why refusing to allow the Western Cape people to police themselves has enormous legal significance
If it were an independent country, the Western Cape would have the highest murder rate in the world. SAPS is a failing institution and cannot address the problem. The Western Cape people have voted for a provincial police force and the Western Cape Government and Premier have formally requested more policing powers. For purely political reasons, the national government continues to refuse to allow the Western Cape people to police themselves - even under the GNU
Cape Independence, or other forms of self-determination, which can be asserted by right (i.e. the national government cannot legally deny a people self-determination) would allow the Western Cape to address its policing problems
#GNUInTrouble#NoCommonMinds Gwede Mantashe (Chairperson ANC) 31/12/2025 on GNU “It is a coalition of contesting forces. It is not a coalition of common minds”. Now you know why SA is in the state it is. ANC clings to power while implementing failed policies @maroelamedia@IOL
"It's simply not true that most white people in South Africa didn't want apartheid to end. The question was not whether it should end, but what to replace it with. If people are upset about the current South African government and say that the system isn't working, that's not a way of saying that apartheid must come back. It is a way of saying that we need something that isn't the current dispensation, nor the former. South Africa desperately needs decentralisation. The current and the former government are/were deeply centralised."
-Ernst Roets, Executive Director of Lex Libertas
@haugejostein The countries you list have in common that they are small—akin to city states. Economic policies don’t scale well. Try theirs in the US or UK and you’ll have a real mess. The key to freedom is decentralisation.
