It’s troubling how unpopular Shabana Mahmood is with Labour members as a result of her supposedly ‘hardline’ approach to immigration when reality is she probably represents the absolute floor of acceptability to wider public. Labour still aren’t really getting ahead of the issue.

People tried voting against illegal migration. Politicians broke their promises and didn’t stop it. The courts were no use. Peaceful protest didn’t work.

Since I posted this Jaguar Land Rover, UK’s biggest carmaker, is to cut 4,000 jobs.
China Shock 2.0 is not the only factor — soaring costs, especially energy, and Trump’s tariffs are also hitting the company. But Chinese competition is contributing to plunging sales volumes.
JLR is not alone. Volkswagen is in the midst of massive job losses. But Britain might not even have a car industry in a decade — and if it doesn’t it will be down to a combination of politicians lumbering industry with net-zero fuelled energy costs and China Shock 2.0.
When politicians from our Bus-Conductor-in-Chief down talk of reindustrialising Britain, ignore them. They’re pushing policies that do the opposite.
