@PEoperator Makes me think of two quotes. "the effectiveness of a manager is the output of the team" and "the best businesses can be run by a ham sandwich" lol
@jamesonhaslam Our reviews sky rocketed when we started using gather up - every client gets a survey and higher scores prompted for reviews. Lower scores prompt straight to AM to close the issue quickly. Our pricing calculator drives a lot of traffic but not sure how to turn that into reviews.
@therobertbrooks That's very impressive. Congratulations! What do you credit the 2x revenue to compared to what the old owner was doing? More impressed by the earnings but I'm sure a lot went into that!
@PEoperator This hits hard. Thanks for sharing. Any operator looking to grow has similar moments but your story is a powerful example of incentives and timelines. Changing either of those makes for tough decisions. Especially in a PE structure (where owners may be distant observers)
@SteveWiesnerSMB Well said. I agree with all of that. One thing not often talked about by inside PE is the affect the incentives have on an industry and customers (some good, many bad). But a topic for another day I suppose. Appreciate the nuanced take!
@GShipp@BigJohn043 Well said. I agree with that. Guess I was responding to the way returns are talked about as strictly financial. And it would be interesting PE co vs founder co over a longer timeframe. Bet your return thesis still holds overall in aggregate
@justinroffmarsh I don't think I know a good way to ask a better question lol. I need to think more on it. Every new truck DOES potentially add the need for managers, sales reps, etc. But there must be a sweet spot. Simple is revenue per truck broken into constant units. Ty
@justinroffmarsh I like it. We have 180 "sunny days" per year. T'put per day / half day is useful. Then the question is - how to add useful days. This concept is big on project pricing. Appreciate the writing and ordered the book!
@PEoperator Feel this. Often we have a sense of things not being able to work long term which are hard to quantify and articulate. Talk to the team about it and we're on different time horizons (hard to survive the week and talk about long term strategic changes in the same conversation)
@RobertMSterling If only our politicians could do this. Dreaming, I know. Accountability and telling the truth builds resilience and decency. Thanks for sharing.
@jamesonhaslam Major medical small group plan currently. Expensive and hard to control the costs. We are exploring unbundled plans and potential alternatives (ie DPC). Pretty much table stakes to get the talent we need and something I want to offer so folks can make this a career. .
@MatznerJon The simple answer is that the internet is not real life. They are speaking to people who want to fantasize about an "easier way". You and I know this doesn't exist (at least not very probable). Passion, grit, resilience don't make for good thumbnails sadly
@jamesonhaslam That's awesome! Maybe one small advantage of being in CA with more regs and tough terrain. I'll have to ask our deck guys what that's like in NE. It's not typical around here to charge fees but I wish it was! Thanks for the additional info. Appreciate it!
