@kjdelay1 I think it’s reasonable to ask if a physician has attempted before GU gets called. Have had multiple situations where the nurse couldn’t get it in and I was able to pop in a coude. Have also been unable to get a coude in after the nurse attempted. Docs should always try.

A neurologist called to tell me about a patient she was sending. The context gave me insight, and I ended up doing an extensive workup. He was young with CP. He had normal labs and plain films, and ended up having metastatic disease.
Solid relationships with consultants matter.

@cliffreid Two days ago - A guy was tachypneic, seemed to be struggling to breathe. Only his CBC was resulted - hgb 6.7. I ordered blood. Way later, the rest of his labs came back. He was in severe metabolic acidosis from renal failure and his CXR showed some edema. Struggle with this.
