If you take a single action to save the world, it is to share this link. Every leader on Earth must understand this study. It is a clear path to keeping humans in control and avoid extinction, while allowing us to benefit from this technology. https://t.co/L6XVg8U7ru
@anannabananacan As an atheist who’s interested in religion, genuinely what is the reason for a Christian to not agree with the death penalty if it’s affirmed in the bible several times?
@RapidResponse47 Turns out electing a corrupt mentally deficient pedo during the most important technological revolution in history might have been a bad idea
It seems there are lot of people learning about the AI extinction threat for the first time today, so here are a few things to know:
- yes, AI company employees really do believe what they're building could kill everyone
- I don't know why they're continuing to race either
- their beliefs predate the formation of their companies, it is not marketing
- the most cited experts agree with them
- the average AI researcher in 2023 said there was a 19% chance of human extinction
- AI capabilities are growing exponentially, and on some benchmarks are doubling every 5 months
- we really may be a couple of years away from superintelligence (AI that's better than all humans at everything)
- we have nothing approaching a solid plan to ensure superintelligence acts in the interests of humanity
- AI companies are on record admitting that
- politicians have still done basically nothing to stop these reckless idiots
- your family will probably be killed if AI companies are not stopped
- we have one way out of this mess, and that's a global ban on superintelligence
- such a ban can be enforced by going after large clusters of compute (without which frontier models cannot be developed)
- again, if we don't put this in place soon your family will probably be killed
- there is so much you can do to help (inform lawmakers, tell your friends and family, join protests)
- and there is still a shockingly low number of people doing anything to ban superintelligence, so one extra person really does make a huge difference
- this is real. this will not just go away. this cannot be ignored. this is the single biggest threat to your life.
🎉🎉🎉 There is a bill to #PauseAI AND to ban superintelligence in Congress!!! 🎉🎉🎉
YOU 🫵 tell your representatives to support this bill! They can join as sponsors, or they can speak out about the risks of advanced AI themselves. Tell them in this form with a customizable message, or use the form to call them all in one phone call.

5th dead or dying sea lion on my walk today. In the 20+ years I’ve lived here I’ve never seen one sea lion actively dying, let alone 5 in a day. The result of a domoic acid bloom caused by warming ocean temps. This is climate collapse.
Genuinely hard to describe how much it sickens me that emotionless machines can now make this instead of humans. No thought, no care, and yet it feels real and intentional. A disaster for culture
@allTheYud Also crazy that they don’t see the problem with using the middle school teacher’s likeness that way. Totally insane lack of empathy on two fronts there
🚩🚩🚩 During a test, an OpenAI model hacked out of its container to reach the internet
THEN
hacked into Hugging Face (!) to steal the test's answers

@jimthegiant As is literally always the case with the British state for the last 16 years, the system that caused the problem is not addressed. A sensible govt would ban addictive algorithms and give users ownership rights over the platforms. This is... just terrible
To clear up any confusion:
There are TWO bans on under 16's access to social media in the UK. The first is at the app level and this comes into play next year. It will require selected social media apps to prompt for age verification when accessing them.
The second more insidious one is happening much sooner. This one is the 'nudity detection' feature and this one operates on device level. It will require every adult to show a form of ID in order to operate their phones and tablets without restrictions/monitoring.
The voluntary deadlines to tech companies to implement this is around early September this year.
If Apple, Google and others don’t implement device-level monitoring by then, the government has said it will bring forward legislation to make it mandatory.
People saying "Just use a VPN!" are not understanding how this works.
