Been digging into this new book by @philip_dearing. Highly recommend for anyone looking to make a positive impact and, like my grandma used to say, “leave this joint better than you found it.” #WhyChangeDies
I thought this from @johnarnold was really interesting so I mapped out state HDI vs effective tax rate between meetings today. It's a slight positive correlation, but the tax rate spread for high-HDI states leaves a lot more questions to dig into...
Having spent significant time in both high- & low-tax states, I’m continually perplexed on where the added tax revs go. The difference in public services between the two isn't obvious. There’d be less tax aversion if quality of public services was strongly correlated to tax revs.

This raises a lot of questions and I want to learn more! Is it relatively easy to improve the quality of pre-k or is it like k-12 education where moving the needle very far is basically impossible?
Devastating new results on the effects of state-funded pre-K programs.
In policy you rarely get stronger study designs than random assignment + multi-year longitudinal follow-up.
Yikes.

Why is colluding to constrict supply and increase prices for a vital good "savvy business" and not "dangerous, unethical, and possibly illegal." @nytimes
