Loving this cover of Memories. And that cover of It is Well was better than the original. I am so proud to call these blind musicians my colleagues and friends. #blindwithu
Just made a few batches of chocolate chip cookies for us to enjoy as we listen to the #blindwithu concert. Thank you to everyone who had a hand in putting it together. So impressed by fellow musicians.
Enjoying the #blindwithu concert with my family in Virginia. Loving the variety, the talent, and the power. My five month old baby, Ember, is loving the music. Totally appreciating our blindness community right now.
Are you in or near New York City? Join the @NFB_voice in fighting the low expectations the entertainment industry has for blind people. We will be protesting in front of CBS on Tuesday, April 2 at 11:00 a.m. Learn more about the #LetUsPlayUs protest here: https://t.co/Bggweschif
@NFB_voice, in addition to hiring blind actors for blind characters, the industry (stage, screen, TV) must nurture and welcome blind actors at every level and for every role--whether or not the character had been originally conceived as blind. #LetUSPlayUS#RepresentationMatters
Please continue to share your thoughts on #LetUsPlayUs - We will have an in-person protest at CBS Corporation in NYC on April 2 to continue drawing attention to this issue. DM us for more details if you are interested in attending. #RepresentationMatters
I envision a world in which blind actors play a variety of roles on stage and screen. Let's begin by bringing authenticity to our blind characters by casting blind actors in these roles. Blind performers, let's show the industry what we can do! #LetUsPlayUs
Blind hopefuls are routinely denied spots in acting classes, community theater, and university theater programs. This is discrimination. Blind people deserve the opportunity to learn, to express, and to entertain alongside our sighted colleagues. #LetUsPlayUs
@NFB_voice It starts from the beginning. Young blind actors need to not be denied acting opportunities in schools and in their communities. #LetUsPlayUs
I have had enough. I'm tired of fearing auditions, not because I don't have the talent, but because I won't be given the chance. My fellow blind performers and I are done settling for less and putting up with discriminationffsPlayUs
When I got the opportunity to act on stage without barriers, I was able to focus on my performance and explore the full range of my talent as an actress and opera singer. #LetUsPlayUs
When I studied vocal performance in grad school, our opera director had high expectations of my abilities. I climbed on platforms, danced around the stage, and played a variety of roles ranging from nuns to witches. #LetUsPlayUs
My dream was to study musical theater. I have the voice for it. But I was barred from dance classes and discouraged from acting classes because of my blindness. Let's not allow another blind actress be discouraged from her dream of maing it on Broadway. thLetUsPlayUs
If u r uncomfortable with a person of one race playing that of another then u should be equally uncomfortable with a sighted person playing a blind person. Blindness isn’t something we do, it is a part of who we are. #LetUsPlayUS
We seek opportunities, for blind performers to fulfill their potential, to be represented accurately in the media, and to show blind children that they can pursue acting and entertainment as a career. #LetUsPlayUs
Imagine what the image of blindness would be like in society if the industry worked actively with @NFB_Voice to make authentic representation the norm. We could learn so much together. We are ready and willing! #LetUsPlayUs
