NSW is on track to see more than $10 Billion lost to poker machines in 2026, losses climbing at more than twice the rate of inflation. And losses are concentrated in postcodes and communities that can least afford it. It’s time to Put Pokies in Their Place.
There's only three things certain in NSW - death, taxes and spiralling pokies losses. $2.37B lost in just 3 months, a 9.4% increase year on year - more than twice inflation rate. NSW punters lose$26.4m every day, $1.1m every hour. It's Groundhog Day on steroids. Real reform NOW!
The politician who allowed pokies into NSW pubs says no one knew they would generate $5 billion in profits every year. “If we had known...we would have saddled them with markedly higher tax regimes.” https://t.co/NCFSnInuxa
A push for gambling reform in New South Wales could see the number of poker machines dramatically reduced in the state.

Gambling reform could be in the cards with a push from within Labor's ranks to significantly reduce the number of pokies. It will be put to a vote at its state conference in a few weeks, but the Premier hinted that he might have changes of his own in the works, too.
@MenachemV@AlboMP@australian@SkyNewsAust I went to Bialik College 10 years ago and it looked like a prison with armed guards then. That was well before Albo was PM.
While the world focuses on the destruction in Iran, we must not ignore what Israel is doing in Lebanon.
1,461 have been killed.
4,430 have been injured.
1.2 million have been displaced.
Israel now occupies 14% of Lebanon.
Enough is enough. No more US military aid to Israel.
Cry me a river.
The 'industry' gets a kick in the guts? Good.
The $6b 'contributed'? That's from the poor bastards who lose their money, not from the pockets of the bookies.
The jobs funded by gambling losses? I'm sad for the people, but not the jobs.
Ban. Gambling. Ads. Now.
Albo acknowledges that pokies are “overwhelmingly” the largest cause of gambling harm in Australia but is doing diddly squat about this. His Labor Party even runs four predatory pokies venues in Canberra and Sydney, something no other political party in the world does.
The gov’t remains determined to as good as disappear the benchmark Murphy report into gambling reform, and its key recommendation to ban gambling advertising. The PM needs to be called out as the one blocking an ad ban. #politas#auspol
It’s 431 days since the Independent Panel for Gambling Reform handed its report and recommendations to the NSW Government. And still no response.
It’s 951 days since the Murphy Inquiry final report was tabled in Federal Parliament. Still no response.
Not. Good. Enough.
How about no? Taxpayers should not have to foot the bill and pay a bribe just so media companies can make moral decisions such as not taking money from dirty gambling companies.
The nerve of these people.
There’s no excuse for the Federal Government’s refusal to ban gambling adverting. Shameful that they don’t care about the harm of gambling addiction, and are scared stiff of the gambling & media companies and of the AFL & NRL #auspol#politas
