Salutations to Sri Dakshinamurthy, the Guru who is the embodiment of the Supreme Teacher. By whose mere vibration (of Consciousness), the unreal world appears as real; who directly teaches the mahavakya “Tat Tvam Asi” (Thou Art That) from the Vedas to those who take refuge in Him. By the direct realization of this Truth, one is liberated and does not return again to the ocean of worldly existence (samsara)

హిందూ మత పరిరక్షణ కోసం అవతరించిన సరళ సిద్ధాంతవేత్త ఆది శంకరాచార్యులు. ఆది శంకరులు, శంకర భగవత్పాదులు అని కూడా పిలువబడే ఈ మహానుభావులు హిందూ మతాన్ని ఉద్ధరించిన త్రిమతాచార్యులలో ప్రథములు. గురువు, మహాకవి కూడా. శంకరులు ప్రతిపాదించిన సిద్ధాంతం అద్వైతం.
శంకరులు సాక్షాత్తు శివుని అవతారమని భక్తుల నమ్మకం. వైశాఖ శుద్ధ పంచమి రోజున ఆది శంకరాచార్యుల జయంతి.

శృతి స్మృతి పురాణానాం ఆలయం కరుణాలయమ్!

ఈ భారత ఖండంలో అనేక కొత్త సిద్ధాంతాలు, మతాలు పుట్టుకొచ్చి, ప్రజల్లో సనాతన ధర్మం పట్ల, భగవంతుని పట్ల విశ్వాసం సన్నగిల్లుతున్న సమయంలో, మన సనాతన ధర్మ పరిరక్షణ కోసం అవతరించిన అపర శంకరావతారమే ఆది శంకరాచార్యులు. శ్రౌత, స్మార్త క్రియలను సుప్రతిష్టితం చేసి, వైదిక మార్గాన్ని సక్రమంగా నిలబెట్టడానికి నీలలోహితుడు (శివుడు) స్వయంగా శంకరుల రూపంలో అవతరించారని భక్తుల ప్రగాఢ విశ్వాసం.

దుష్టాచార వినాశాయ ప్రాతుర్భూతో మహీతలే!
స ఏవ శంకరాచార్యః సాక్షాత్ కైవల్య నాయకః!!

దుష్టాచారాలను నశింపజేయడానికి కైవల్య నాయకుడైన శంకరుడే ఆది శంకరుని రూపంలో అవతరించాడు. (శివరహస్యం నుండి)

కరిష్యత్స్యవతారం స్వం శంకరో నీలలోహితః!
శ్రౌత స్మార్త ప్రతిష్ఠార్థం భక్తానాం హిత కామ్యాయా!!

శ్రౌత, స్మార్త క్రియలను సుప్రతిష్టితం చేసి, వైదిక మార్గాన్ని సక్రమంగా నిలబెట్టడానికి నీలలోహితుడు (శివుడు) స్వయంగా శంకరుల రూపంలో అవతరించారు(కూర్మ పురాణం నుండి).

జగద్గురు ఆది శంకరాచార్యులు క్రీ.పూ. 509 (విభవ నామ సంవత్సరం) వైశాఖ శుద్ధ పంచమి తిథి రోజున కర్కాటక లగ్నంలో శివుని జన్మ నక్షత్రమైన ఆరుద్రలో సూర్యుడు, శని, గురుడు, కుజుడు ఉచ్చస్థితిలో ఉండగా కృష్ణ యజుర్వేద శాఖకు చెందిన నంబూదిరి బ్రాహ్మణ దంపతులైన ఆర్యమాంబ, శివగురులకు కేరళలోని పూర్ణా నది ఒడ్డున ఉన్న కాలడిలో జన్మించారు. కాలడి ఇప్పటి త్రిచూర్‌కి కొద్ది మైళ్ల దూరంలో ఉంది. ఆర్యమాంబ, శివగురులు త్రిచూర్‌లోని వృషాచల పర్వతంపై ఉన్న శివుని ప్రార్థించి, ఆయన అనుగ్రహంతో పుత్రుడిని పొందారు. పార్వతీదేవి, సుబ్రహ్మణ్య స్వామికి ఏ విధంగా జన్మనిచ్చిందో, ఆర్యమాంబ శంకరులకు అదే విధంగా జన్మనిచ్చిందని శంకర విజయం చెబుతుంది.

ఆయన జనన కాలం గురించి భిన్నాభిప్రాయాలు ఉన్నప్పటికీ, కంచి మున్నగు పీఠాలు అంగీకరించినవి మరియు హిందూ గ్రంథాల ప్రకారం ఆయన జీవన కాలం క్రీ.పూ. 509–క్రీ.పూ. 477 అని తెలియవస్తుంది. ( క్రీస్తు పూర్వం అని రాసుకోడానికి చింతిస్తున్నాను, శంకరుల శకం శంకరుల పూర్వం అని రాసుకోగలిగే రోజు వస్తే బాగుండు ).

ఆయన రెండవ ఏటనే రాయడం, చదవడం నేర్చుకున్నారు. గ్రంథాలు చదివేవారు. ఆయన తండ్రి శంకరుల మూడవ ఏటనే చనిపోయారు. ఐదవ ఏటనే కామ్యోపనయనం చేశారు. ఏడవ సంవత్సరం వచ్చేసరికి వేదాలను అధ్యయనం చేసేశారు. కారణ జన్ములైన శంకరాచార్యులు సన్యాసాశ్రమాన్ని స్వీకరించి గోవింద భగవత్పాదాచార్యుల చెంత శాస్త్రాధ్యయనం చేశారు.

🔱 ఒకసారి శంకరులు అమ్మవారికి పాలను నైవేద్యంగా పెట్టి, వాటిని స్వీకరించడానికి అమ్మవారు రాలేదని తీవ్రంగా విలపిస్తుండగా, ఆ తల్లి ఆయన ముందు ప్రత్యక్షమై ఆయనను తన ఒడిలోకి తీసుకుని ఆ పాలను త్రాగించి తన కరుణా కటాక్షాలను ఆ చిన్ని శంకరుల మీద ప్రసరింపచేసింది.

🕉️ ఇంకొకసారి ఆయన వేదాభ్యసన సమయంలో భిక్ష కోసం ఒక పేద వృద్ధురాలి ఇంటికి వెళ్లి యాచించగా, ఆమె తన ఇంటిలో ఉన్న ఒకే ఒక ఉసిరి కాయను ఆయనకు ఇచ్చివేసింది. ఆమె పరిస్థితికి జాలిపడిన శంకరులు సంపదలకు అధినేత అయిన లక్ష్మీదేవిని స్తుతిస్తూ
“కనకధారా స్తవం” ఆశువుగా పలికారు. దానికి ఆ తల్లి సంతోషించి బంగారు ఉసిరి కాయల వర్షం కురిపించింది.

🕉️ శంకరుల తల్లి ఆర్యాంబ వృద్ధాప్యం కారణంగా పూర్ణా నదికి రోజూ స్నానానికి వెళ్లలేకపోవడం గమనించి, శంకరులు పూర్ణా నదిని ప్రార్థించి, నదిని ఇంటి వద్దకు తెప్పించారు. ఆ విధంగా నదీ ప్రవాహం మార్గం మారేసరికి గ్రామ ప్రజలు శంకరులు జరిపిన కార్యానికి ఆశ్చర్య చకితులయ్యారు. తన తపశ్శక్తితో ఆ నదినే తన ఇంటి సమీపంగా ప్రవహించగలిగేటట్లు చేశారు.

🔱 ఆయన సన్యాసాశ్రమ స్వీకరణ కూడా విచిత్రంగా జరిగింది. సన్యాసం తీసుకోవడానికి తల్లి అనుమతి కోరగా, శంకరులు సన్యాసం తీసుకుంటే తాను ఒంటరినవుతానన్న కారణంతో తల్లి అంగీకరించలేదు. ఒకరోజు శంకరులు పూర్ణా నదిలో స్నానం చేస్తుండగా ఒక మొసలి వచ్చి ఆయనను పట్టుకుంది. “తల్లి నన్ను సన్యసించడానికి అనుమతిస్తేనే మొసలి నన్ను వదిలివేస్తుంది” అని ప్రార్థించారు. తల్లి అనుమతించగానే ఆ మొసలి ఆయనను వదిలివేసింది. ఈ సంసార బంధాలు తనను మొసలిలాగా పట్టుకున్నాయని, ఆ బంధాల నుండి తప్పించమని తల్లిని వేడుకున్నారు. దీనిని ఆతుర న్యాసం అంటారు.

Do not recite this unless you have learnt Vedas formally. Vedic recitation is bound to very specific svara-s that must be adhered for its benefits. Mis-intonation can bring adverse effect. Just listen to reap the benefits.
