@cloud_shifter@henningsanden game art is not a basic job. its an insanely specialized field that everyone wants to do but few are capable of. you should maximize your chances of getting picked up anywhere, big or small, by putting in the hours and edging out the competition. not sure what’s crazy about that
@AntonHand as someone who fell into this when they were barely starting hs I find it so difficult to think how one could go from 0 competencies to being industry-ready in 4 years. for my gen of artists, it’s basically implicit that you’ve been grinding blender before even hitting uni
@p_c_allen@idSoftware I still remember when this game came out, summer just started for me and I was 12. Never dreamed I'd get to work with the people who made it nearly a decade later
@Magic_Nipples there is incentive to drastically changing the appearance of these sections rather than just spectacle. designers get to expand on the level layout whilst the artists incorporate realistic functionality (pipes, light fixtures)—hence why these are “reimaginings”, and not remakes
@josephacross i really dig how kind of intentionally incomprehensible all the lettered decals are. weird abbreviations, calibers, ID serials... really sells how all the equipment in this world is the product of huge conglomerates who precisely denote their design specs in strange code
