@varsha_venkat_ The humoral model of pathology never left medicine, it just hides in plain sight when we use words like balance, imbalance, deficiency, excess etc. It's esp. there in alternative medicine, but also lurks in mainstream discourses as well.
@gospel_lens@justus070486@didachedave@UtahCollegeReps There are no books that were considered scripture then that the vast overwhelming majority of Christians don't consider scripture today. Frankly, there's a better case for books like Wisdom and Sirach being scripture than many of the relatively undisputed books, Paul loved them.
@USofStephen@OwenWntr@matthewstoller I mean, given polarization, net approval and raw approval move in lockstep. Which I think you know, which is why you are incapable of even articulating an argument here.
@KAMbot1138@mikemearls What is player skill, then?
(And if we are talking about modern 3e+, there's essentially no such thing as an ability score below an 8.)
@USofStephen@OwenWntr@matthewstoller I'm confused what point you are trying to make. Do you understand what net approval measures? Those scare quotes are a bit oddly placed.
@PAHoyeck That's like saying Aristotle's theory. His theory of what? Capital? Organizing? Political strategy? Dialectical materialism? Surplus value?
To just say "Marx's theory" is, well, oddly vague.
@corbomight@TwilightJack2@mikemearls You asked the DM, and he accommodated your lack of certainty. But it would also have been totally reasonable to just decide. In any event, looking under a pillow isn't a big brain puzzle solving move. A 3 year old child might look under a pillow.
@corbomight@mikemearls No I think you get to decide what your character does. That's like a rather core principle of the game. And maybe the pillow thing wasn't smart, but lucky.
@corbomight@mikemearls If there is a key under a pillow and the player says "I specifically look under the pillow," is a low perception modifier going to matter?
This is obviously the correct take and it's kind of crazy that osr types who think player skill should matter would adopt the position that it is not legitimate to forgo a charisma check when the argument is particularly well crafted
Forgoing a Charisma die roll because of a player's monologue is no different than forgoing a Search roll because the player specifically described trying to unscrew the bed post while searching for a secret compartment.
Both are signs of engaged players and should be rewarded.
@thejfc@BasedMikeLee Not an unreasonable position. I don't entirely disagree. But if I ever am passing through Independence, Missouri, I still think I'd like to stop by the Community of Christ Temple and say a prayer, if only bc it is interesting looking. (They are trinitarian Mormons.)
@thejfc@BasedMikeLee Especially in the context of Hegseth's list -- I could see excluding Jehovah's witnesses and Mormons. But if JW's count, what's the basis for excluding Mormons?
