@scott_expert No legal impediment to the sale. The licensing act excludes all drinks under 0.5% (and some things over such as condiments). It’s just retailer policy, they’ve decided that having kids walking out with something that looks like normal beer from a distance isn’t great.
@david_stewart@JeremyClarkson Shuttlecocks are the peregrine falcons of sport. The feathers get forced back from the force of the smash, starts off like an aerodynamic dart at ridiculously high speeds and then de-accelerates rapidly as the feathers come back into the airflow.
@MichaelRosenYes@Paul43757482 For non eu passports the rule is less than 10 years on date of entry to the Schengen area and 3 months validity on intended leaving date. If you enter the EU on an EU passport then your passport is valid for entry right up to its expiry date which could be over 10 years.
@greenprogressve@MartinSLewis@NaijaGoldaMeir At 100k your take home is £68558, at 125k it is £78058. You get an extra £9500 for earning £25000 more. You get 38% of it, losing 62% to the tax man.
@MartinSLewis@NaijaGoldaMeir@greenprogressve It actually works out at an effective rate of 62% as the point at which you pay 40% comes forward as the personal allowance decreases. So by the time you hit £125k you are paying 40% starting from £37k rather than £50k
@megolithic @DanielPriestley They increased it because they were getting to many tax returns and hmrc was struggling under the increased volume of tax payers they actually have to interact with. Obviously fixing the tax system is way too sensible an idea for the government.
@GiantsofAlbion1@DanielPriestley The self assessment requirement quietly got increased to 150k and is going altogether in the next tax year if you only get income through paye. The way tax codes are generated from last year’s income does mean that virtually everyone in the band will be on the wrong tax code.
@thom_brooks Do you think that the people that signed are actually expecting an election or do you think they are just using it as a way to express unhappiness in choices this government has made since being elected? I assumed the latter but many people seem to be taking this thing literally
@narindertweets Why call out the British Antarctic territory? Lazy journalism? It’s an overseas territory with no permanent residents, has just 9 signatures, and the few hundred down there will be brits on seasonal deployment to one of our research stations. Doesn’t seem dubious.
@PeterStefanovi2 I keep seeing this brought up but when I look at the data there is nothing suspicious about it. 9 signed from the British Antarctic Territory, so, it’s summer down there, a few hundred Brits will be stationed at Rothera for the season. Why is that bit of data problematic?
@benkbullock@TheNorfolkLion Anguilla is a British overseas territory and since 2002 they have had full British citizenship, given the petition criteria is ‘British Citizen OR UK resident’ I reckon that’s a legit signature.
@TheNorfolkLion He is showing poor knowledge of the uk and its territories. The first ‘country’ mentioned is Anguilla which is a British overseas territory and since 2002 its people were granted full British Citizenship and as per the petition criteria legitimately allowed to sign.
@MartinSLewis It’s an example of how poorly thought out and shambolic the tax system has become. This hammers lots of people that have separated or inherited shares of property. One person can own 100% of one property but not 50% of two different properties without getting penalised.
@dgpearce1000@KirstieMAllsopp Happens with relationship breakdowns when children are involved, if the mother isn’t in a strong enough financial position to take over the mortgage on the property then selling could end up making the children homeless which obviously isn’t an option for any sane parent.
@patrick_VOR@BellaWallerstei Race to the bottom, cost over quality. The irony that the old EU passport was printed by a British company in Gateshead and the new blue passport is printed by a French company in Poland which resulted in the loss of 170 jobs in the North East.
@patrick_VOR@BellaWallerstei The quality of the U.K. series C passport is poor. The series D should appear next year, let’s hope they fix some of the quality issues.
