@OofUtd20 The goal isn't necessarily to close the gap next season. It's to consistently make Champions League, not just in seasons where we have fewer games than the competition.
People are missing the point of United’s transfer window.
Finishing 3rd with one of the lightest schedules in the league is one thing. Doing it again with Champions League and deeper cup runs is another.
United don’t just need upgrades. They need a much deeper squad. Otherwise will miss out on Europe again.
I find 10-20 year old global football fans are a lot less loyal these days. They’re likely to follow multiple teams in different leagues for more interested in following certain star players than sticking with a club through thick and thin. If city start losing they’ll lost a lot of so called fans fast
@MickamiousG It was pretty predictable given how oversubscribed it was. Just be grateful you got more than 1 share like a lot of people in the US seemed to get.
@henrywinter Or Rashford team is colluding with Barca to lower the fee. Rashford is willing to take a 40% wage cut to stay at Barca. If he’s unwilling to offer that to anyone else it forces Man Utd to consider Barca’s lowball offer or risk having to pay his wages with the UCL uplift
@SwedishRumble The approach seems pragmatic to me. First step is to be build a squad that qualifies for champions league consistently. To do that they need a stronger squad. Once the club are back in UCL every season it’ll be a financial powerhouse again and able to spend big every season
Once you get to a certain level of seniority and experience in any career recruitment becomes a 2 way street. Star AFL players don’t apply for jobs, they’re chased by clubs.
Not saying there should be no process but it’s completely normal for an organisation to have to make the case to top candidates why they should join them as much as the candidate needs to impress.
Agree. Need to be flexible based on who’s actually available. Club was willing to go early for Semenyo before he chose City, but at least they were willing to bring a LW purchase forward if the right player was available. Might the opposite now for midfield, if no marquee mid isn’t available then strengthen elsewhere first
@AdamJoseph Feel like the club is banking on Fernandes being the next Anderson. I’m all for the club being smart in the transfer market and not overpaying for mercenaries.
My read is the club will lock in the easy deals of Ederson and Fernandes first. Then play by ear the number 1 midfielder (Tchouameni, Anderson or Tonali) depending on availability and financials.
Question is, if they can’t get the right deal will they pass this summer and go into next season with just Ederson and Fernandes? Could be why Alex Scott being mentioned now
@EthNick_@ScooterMcNeice@LunchCatchUp Scooter addressed it in his solo podcast episode. He loves Hirdy but he loves the club more. He's not against Hirdy being in the mix, but wants the club to hire the best candidate.
This won’t be popular but the answer is to pay politicians much more to attract the best and brightest. We’ve got a treasurer who barely understands the far reaching implications of CGT because he majored in political science not finance or economics. Compare that to Singapore whose foreign minister spends a few weeks tinkering with Open Claw so he can understand the real world implications of the AI revolution
