Platner pulled out of a planned event with VoteVets and is leaving DC early and returning to Maine because NYP reporters showed up to his in laws house and family restaurant, per sources familiar
@JeffreyLax This has to be a purposeful move to assert independence right? Presumably with some expectation it will be vetoed to create a public fight? Not arguing that provides legal cover, just trying to understand.
@Afinetheorem@jbsteinberg My earliest memory of an academic institution gone awry was my very liberal mom and godfather complaining about OISE in the 90s in a very different Cabbagetown. It’s been off the rails for most of its existence.
My new blog post discusses the physical reality of computation and why this means we will not see AGI or any meaningful superintelligence: https://t.co/jsAKQ6T3gC
@sahnicboom I think this is pretty common. Working on a draft of a model where there are YIMBY goods (schools, parks etc) and NIMBY goods (treatment centers, waste transfer and to some housing). Some features display both--people want to be close but not too close to hospital.
.@DKThomp & @RichardvReeves discuss:
Are young men falling behind and shifting right?
This is an important issue & I welcome more studies,

@DPearsonPHL@JohnnyWalsh__ Philly is one of the best convention cities imo. Convention center is much more central and integrated into fabric of city than other cities. People leave with a great impression.
@ElliotLip Recommend the Costco program if they have the model you want. Back when True Car used to publish the distribution of prices, the costco price was usually in the bottom 20-30th percentile--sometimes lower.
@ProfMarkovic There may be very good political reasons to campaign on and even implement these policies, but I do think there are well founded critics that are based in genuine concerns about inequality.
@ProfMarkovic I’m 100% in favor of the loan forgiveness for those that were suckered into scammy for-profits (almost all for profits?). It’s harder to target others and very expensive. I’m happy to spend a lot but I want a lot of progressivity in return.
@ProfMarkovic I think the sort of policies favored by centrists opposed to loan forgiveness and home buyer subsidies are refundable child tax credit and EITC.
@ProfMarkovic The increase in standard deduction and limits to SALT did a lot to reduce the middle/mid-upper class distortion, still a benefit for those with larger loans/high interest.
