I stumbled upon a nice use of the 4th dimension: to make noise that tiles in 2D, cut a surface through 4D noise using a circle in XY as U param and a circle in ZW as V param.

Similar to walking a torus in 3D noise (right img) but the 4D version maps to 2D without distortion.
