This question is an amazing question - absolutely brilliant.
It is one of the *central problems* of the covid response puzzle.
I addressed it about two years ago, but can't find the thread, so here's another go...
Grateful to Dr. Rebecca @PompanoLab for highlighting our human immune organoid & lymphoid-on-chip work in @NatureMaterials. Her "News & Views" outstandingly captures the critical need & efficacy of mini immune organs, predicting response in healthy & immunodeficient individuals.
We have a new preprint posted! But I am going to direct you to BlueSky to learn about it. 😁 #immunoengineering#LymphNodeOnAChip

In an interview with TIME, Trump said he would have a "big discussion" with RFK about ending childhood vaccination programs. He suggested that they could get rid of some vaccinations if he thinks they're "dangerous." This is reckless and will kill people. https://t.co/oFqpvvYbw4
Plus, in a fun reminder of how nicely Twitter used to work, earlier this year @jwLamberink gave some great feedback on how to think about the structures that form during GelMA crosslinking. Look for a shout out in the Acknowledgements! :)

New pub out in #AnalyticalChemistry! Recent PhD Jon Zatorski + undergrad Isabella Lee developed a clever solution phase NMR for #photocrosslinked hydrogels, revealing that Degree of Crosslinking predicts physical stability of the gel. #biomaterials#NMR

Coming from biodefense, it's absolutely staggering to me that not very long ago if H5N1 (until very recently a Select Agent) had been found in retail raw milk, the response from the government would have been fast and aggressive. Now the response is 'don't drink raw milk'.
So, UK is no longer offering #COVID vaccines to pregnant women.
Why do we keep ignoring the science?
- There is NO evidence of increase in adverse events in babies from vaccinated moms.
-Maternal immune activation caused by COVID can PROFOUNDLY impact fetal brain development.
Since we're talking about funding of absurd research by NIH and other federal agencies, the funded scientists:
- watching flies fuck
- giving rats massages
- spending years digging into why jellyfish glow
- tracking penguin poop from space
- using horseshoe crab blood
"Human Immune Organoids & Organs-on-Chip" - Excited to share our new work @NatureMaterials! Congrats to PhD student @MonicaZhong5 for leading this breakthrough work & to all authors!👏🏽Immense thanks to @WellcomeLeap & @NIAIDFunding, @theNCI + for support!🙏🏽https://t.co/7DZXK0t0rc
Read @RebeccaSolnit and absorb that hope is not a bird in the sky you hope lands near you, it’s an active orientation. You find it in the care for someone else or something else outside of yourself. It’s bigger than you. It’s an act of cultivation. Rub two sticks together.
The fantasy of some kind of complete victory looms so large and it is so destructive. In the end, the whole time, it’s always been this, as she put it: “The fact that we cannot save everything does not mean we cannot save anything and everything we can save is worth saving.”

We were told today that many elective surgeries are being cancelled at UVA Hospital and nationwide due to the IV fluid shortage. As a non-medical person I had not heard about this. Yikes. Why is there not a distributed supply chain for such a critical product?
