Drug overdose deaths rose by 30% in the US in 2020, hitting the highest number ever recorded by the @CDCgov. More than 93,000 lives were lost in 1 year & we have yet to see any meaningful action from elected officials to end this public health crisis.

You also are willing to allow criminalization as a means to an end- so some degree of punishment and a lifetime criminal record are worth it if you ultimately get better. It’s a bizarre and messed up belief in a hybrid of both the disease and moral models of addiction.
If your argument is that people need criminalization/the threat of incarceration via a drug court to “get better,” you are siding with our deeply broken addiction treatment system which often uses a one-size-fits-all approach, denies harm reduction and medications that work.
