I wish more economists knew someone who was $27K in debt from culinary school and making $10.50/hr. Or a vet tech student with $19K in loans and earning $31K. But hey, we can’t get economists out of their racially segregated school districts, so this is hopeless.
It’s hard to accept that the U.S. is heading towards democratic collapse.
So, I photoshopped some potential headlines to show #WhatsToCome if we don’t act now…

This is what being in a union can get you! Double digit pay raises up to 30% and more guaranteed hours for part-timers. This contract was won through collective power and a willingness to strike. https://t.co/SPoVRHCI2L
This thread feels like an appropriate marker of 2 full years since the initial lockdown in the US, and it helps me understand the new normal we're now entering, with COVID now part a forever-changed respiratory disease context.
As @ewanbirney put it to us, before Covid we had 4 coronaviruses circulating in the population. Now we have 5, and the 5th is especially transmissible.
As @zorinaq shows below, that means we get more waves of Covid in any given year than we got flu waves https://t.co/F5WDS1xFks

A thread
This thing has rapidly become the world’s exasperating good news/bad news story. If your head isn’t spinning, you’re not paying attention.
A 🧵on my take on both the good news & the bad, with an emphasis on the things that have changed in the past few days... or minutes.(1/25)
The "economy" is ultimately our material relationship with each other and with the rest of the living world. As today's IPCC report settles in, we have to decide whether we want that relationship to be based on extraction and exploitation, or on reciprocity and care.
Our new show Smash Mammon is live in a little over an hour! Watch @rev_jonah in conversation with @posadasj about capitalism's "invisible feet" and the primer series he's developing at The Bias Magazine.

This is devastating news. Global South countries have been fighting for the right to manufacture and import affordable versions of the covid vaccines. A few hours ago, the USA, UK and European Union joined forces to block them at the WTO. The West is indefensible.
