In light of the increasing use of the XRPL for issuing tokens, we have decided to address it in the following ways:

1. Some tokens are legit, some are not – no matter what, we do not have the resources to vet every single project. If a token was “rug pulled”, your best option is to contact the police – and please read this thread: https://t.co/R6vnrgAzMb

2. For “rug pulled” tokens, we are working closely with industry partners and peers to locate accounts used to issue, promote, wash trade, and/or otherwise associated accounts, flag these in our advisory list, and report to authorities where applicable. This is already happening.

3. The uncritical distribution models favored by token issuers, sharing tokens to accounts who have set up trustlines, have birthed a whole new problem: we call them airdrop farmers – groups setting up thousands of accounts and trustlines for the various token projects.

The primary motivations for “airdrop farming” are a) the more trustlines a project has, the more legit it appears, or b) the more airdrops the accounts receive, the more they can potentially scrape together for a potential profit. These motivations are addressed in two ways:

a. We are working with other developers, and recommend anyone providing tools for the XRPL, to tone down messaging of the number of trustlines for any token, or not even counting zero-balance trustlines in a total.

b. We are monitoring the XRPL for accounts created and used by airdrop farmers, to provide an API for token projects to use, when distributing airdrops, e.g. for avoiding sending airdrops to farmers. This API covers more than 50,000 accounts at this moment.
