@trippysalmon While I fully agree that investing in fundamental self-education and situational awareness is highly beneficial, dumb money is still very much here. One doesn't need to learn to hodl.
@trippysalmon I personally know a LOT of people who bought Bitcoin a few years ago, are still not able to tell the difference between PoS/PoW and got 10x-100x ROI.
So while tokenized ecosystems are viewed with sarcastic skepticism (and in many cases rightfully so), the point is whether they are better suited to withstand incoming volatility vs existing systems.
Perhaps, the solution to the domination of centralized, profit-driven social media is decentralized, profit-driven social media with protocol level protections for users. Real-world projects are @AkashaProject, @steemit, @yoursorg, @LBRYio, @golos
Cryptotokens are exceptionally effective vehicles for generating sustained attention by creating behavioral feedback loops. They also are much easier to bootstrap.
@MastodonProject and similar decentralized systems could be a part of the solution but they are losing the battle for attention in a hypercompetitive economy.
Facebook and Twitter are exceptionally bad. Among other reasons they are built without consideration of long-term benefit/harm of users and are dominated by propaganda/manipulation bots. Everything is fake.
We can't put the social media genie back in a bottle. Resistance is futile. Zavinsky law states that “every program attempts to expand until it can read mail". We need to build better systems.
Let's focus on one huge factor contributing to the downfall: social media apps.
Quoting @chamath, they are “tools that are ripping apart the social fabric of how society works”.
Our world is on the brink of radical rapid change brought by technological advance amid the collapse of existing world order. Climate change, automation, machine learning, biotech, tokens, bots, etc will take down most social and economic systems.
Tokenized ecosystems (tokens are an implementation detail) enabled by distributed ledgers secured by cryptography are so much more. Let's put them in context of post-cyberpunk reality.
Some thoughts on the nature of #cryptocurrencies. I believe that "commodity" or "money" metaphor used to explain cryptocurrencies is misguided. It made sense for pre-store-of-value #Bitcoin but impedes understanding of the concept as a whole.
