@yakabikaj I always thought it is influenced by Punjabi: Tusi sunao -> aap sunao (rather than aap sunayein/sunaiye). My layman's take is that H-U aap is usually perceived as being equivalent to tusi in Punjabi, 'tum' being non existent.
