The population of #Manipur in 2023 is estimated to 3.22 million (32.2 Lakhs) as per Unique Identification Aadhar India, updated 31, March 2022.

11% of Manipur are plains occupied by #Meiteis;
89% are the hills occupied by #Kukki and other Tribals

#Meiteis, the largest community in Manipur, account for about 53% followed by various Naga ethnic groups at 24% and various Kuki/Zo tribes (also known as Chin-Kuki-Mizo people) at 16%.

Manipur's ethnic groups practice a variety of religions.

The #Manipur Assembly has 60 MLA Seats

Despite hill districts of #Manipur comprising 89% of the geographical area, there are only 20 MLA seats from these areas in the Manipur Assembly.

The valley/plains, which comprises just 11% area, have 40 MLA seats in the assembly.

The valley (plain) is mainly inhabited by the Meitei speaking population .

Around 80% of the funds meant for the development in the state are consumed by the valley-the #Meiteis

The Hill tribals have never succeeded in getting proportionate allocation of funds. Out of the 20 MLAs from the Hills.

Recently 10 Kuki MLAs demanded 'separate administration' for the tribal areas.

Further, the Hill tribals feel that they can no longer exist under Manipur as the hatred against the tribal community reached such a height that MLAs, ministers, pastors, police and civil officers, women and even children were not spared. Destruction of places of worship, homes and properties had been on since the new BJP Government took over last year.

To live amidst the Meitei again is as good as death for our people, the 10 MLAs expressed on 12th May.

The video which went viral yesterday is just a tip of the iceberg - a short video record of horrible atrocities against the tribals under @NBirenSingh led #BJP Government.

The terrorist #Hindutva groups from #Meitei community is said to enjoy patronage of the double engine government.

The #Kukki tribals have now reached a point where they do not trust the people from the plains any more.

They have demanded an independent administration for themselves within the same State. Peace and harmony can have a chance if their demand is agreed to.
